I am out of warranty and my MyGig has died. After going through numerous tests/checks found here and elsewhere along with having 2 tech friends check it out, I am quite certain my hard drive has pooped the bed.

What are my options? Can you purchase a new hard drive for these? If not, is what I have worth anything as far as parts go? Just checking all options before I throw it in the trash.

Thanks,

I would 'guess' it was the hard drive as well. You have a few options and the radio is expensive to just throw away. Some people have been working towards successful replacement of these hard drives.

On the charger forums, one guy has laid out how to do a HD to HD copy which 'might' work with yours if your hard drive is not completely fried.

Another option would be to 'borrow' the hard drive out of the same make/model radio and do a disk to disk copy to a new hard drive. All of these processes are technically doable but fairly complicated.

Check out this thread:

Also search around google or the search engine of your choice for mygig hard drive replacement. You might be able to find some info.

There are talks of people replacing the traditional standard laptop-like drive with an SSD drive which would be more shock resistant for offroad too.

Oh and I'm in NC too and have been doing computer forensic and data storage for a few years, I can probably point you in the right direction if one of your tech friends can't do it for you.

I tend to work for beer... :cheers2:

Looks like there is at least one company that will sell a replacement for around 200-250 bucks too... oemautopartsco dot com...

For a price of a new radio vs. Either a lot of time on your part doing it yourself, paying for a new swap out and re-ripping your music, it doesn't look too bad.

Awesome, let me know what you decide to do. When my MyGig hard drive fails, or when I decide to upload a mass amount of Lynyrd Skynyrd music and I need to up the capacity I might have to revisit this thread. Good luck!

MyGig Died

I thought mine died as well and I read somewhere to disconnect the battery terminals and touch the +/- togrther for about 30 seconds. Tried it and it worked for me. MyGig came back to life. Probably you have already tried this but I just thought I would mention it.

Mine stopped working. Didn't recognize the hard drive or nav or my phone. A week later it fixed itself. If out is just the hard drive I'd just hook up an ipod via blue tooth or hard wire.

Wow, the MyGIG system doesn't automatically reformat the harddrive itself? That's hard to believe! I imagine it runs a linux distro of some sort. Interesting!

You just cannot replace the hdd on these because they have their own os and you have the hdd partitioned correctly for the os to work properly. I dont understand why they would not put in ssd since hdd doesnt like movements and if you wheel they the hdd with break. back in 07 I placed mine with ssd and between one other guy we figured out the correct partition size.
