I bought my jeep a few months ago and the top half of the door fell off of the jeep because the thread inserts were broken. Where can i get these plastic inserts for my half doors that have the threaded end so i can bolt the hard top half of my door, all i have found is the soft top inserts which will not work, or is there any way to make something to replace the insert that i can screw my bolts into.

I bought some from the only source I could fine and they lasted all of a day. The cure was to buy 3/8" coupler nuts and using a mix of jb weld and jb putty glued them into the doors. Problem solved. Fyi, thread bolts into the coupler nuts to keep the jb weld out and use mucho amounts of neutral shoe polish as a release agent on anything you don't want to be permanent like the bolts.

are you saying the top part of your half door, which I'm assuming is an aftermarket slider, bolted to plastic inserts in the steel lower half door...and these inserts are broken?

who made the uppers? have you tried contacting the manufacturer regarding availability of replacement parts? can the bolts be permanently fastened to the uppers, effectively turning them into pins, so that the soft upper inserts can be used?

Are you talking about repairing a full steel door (where the hoop is usually welded), fastening metal hoops that screw onto steel half doors (which I haven't heard of), or soft top doors, with or without sliders, that match with a hard top (the hardware comes from the upper door maker)?

A pic would be appreciated.

Scrounging through a Lowes or Home Depot special fasteners bin might get you far.

EDIT: When I started typing you had no replies and no solutions. Others might want to look a rivet-nut gun for these kinds of issues. You can make one if needed.

If this is what you are looking for,

These do not include a threaded insert because the the OEM use did not have a threaded fastener to hold the top half of the door on. There are 4 fingers on the end of the plastic insert that some aftermarket manufacturers used to hold a threaded insert for their 1/2 door applications. I found theses inserts here,

http://www.xtremetops.com/catalog/main.php.

You have to call and ask about the inserts because they are not listed on the web site. I spoke with Michael Valden at Xtreme Tops. The inserts were $6 each and made of aluminum.
