The frames on TJ will rust out right at the lower rear control arm mount. There is a hole on the side that catches all the tire splash, but no holes on the bottom to let it all out.

This is the spot that is showing up on TJ frames.

A gallon of POR-15? You must have inherited a small fortune!

Anyways, the frame rails you should wirebrush and coat those up real nicely. The rocker panels tend to rust, as well as floor boards. Basically anywhere on the body (especially underside) that gets hit with road spray will rust out on you before you know it. The factory rear cross member tends to go too.

I've seen some bad cases of the frame rails disintegrating in the front, behind the bumper and around the sway bar clamps.

thank you, my jeep is fairly new but still old, i think if I do this now I will prevent a lot of rust holes and headaches down the road..i've seen some horrific rust on here from jeeps that aren't much older then mine..i hate rust

I knew that would have to be a problem, can I plug up that hole? or is that a bad idea? how do u paint the inside of a rail?

if you pull the rear inner well splash guards off you'll see the tub reinforcement going from left to right across the back . it's a perfect shelf for salt and dirt to sit and corrode the corners .(the two perfectly symmetrical holes you see on alot of jeeps ) . rear bumper attachments and aforementioned frame spots . when using por 15 be sure to rinse the marine clean off well and do the metal ready for sure then rinse well !!!!!! the por works awsome when metal is wet. do as many coats as you can . it helps to use gray then when still tacky spray with a good frame paint like eastwood black . this way you know what you missed . or if you use black por , hit it with a color frame paint , then the color of choice . wear gloves , long sleeves and eye protection!!!! does not come off for weeks . have fun . look in eastwoods site for the frame wand for use with compressor . it paints right up in the frame and works fantastic!!! . get the por cleaning solution in case you do get some on you or need to clean gun . it works very well .

front fenders next to the hood, if you look at the underside of the fender there is a reinforcement plate there. the space between the fender and plate will cause the fender to rust from the bottom to the top. if its not rusting yet, put some sealant in the gap,

Where was this advice last year.

I had that crap on my arms....neck....even a spot above my eye brow. had to damn near scrub the skin off to remove that one.

Do you all not take care of your rigs or did the PO just hand it over in crappy fashion? I live in the rust belt and don't have an ounce of rust on my rig...and it gets scratched quite often. Wash it at least once a week during the winter and keep the frame, axles, suspension, steering, tub, etc. touched up and you won't have any problems. Keep the frame rinsed out, as well. If you've got rust, a flap wheel on an angle grinder is your best friend. Flap it clean and it hit with rattle can. There's no reason to spend more money than that, especially if it will just get rubbed off by rocks and trees.

mine currently has minimal rust forming but i'm trying to stop it before it devours everything on my jeep..once it starts its only a matter of time before the car falls apart and leaves u with a seat and a steering wheel...well a very long time
