I have a HO alternator (200 amp) that has been giving me problems since installed. apparently it's putting out enough juice and the wirings been upgraded, but I was told to get a new battery with more cranking amps. I am wondering if someone can tell me what the largest battery (in cranking amps) is that will safely work and physically fit my '88 xj? any suggestions for brands? all I've ever really used a are the Neverstarts

I would like to know the biggest battery that wil Fit... Right now i have a 700CC amp battery.

I'm running a yellow top duralast (from Autozone) at 850 CCA. They tried to sell me the 1000 CCA one, but it was about 1/2" too big for the tray.

I'm using the Everstart maxx battery from Wal-mart with 1000CA/875CCA/3yr replacement/9yr prorated.

My last Wal-mart battery was over 6 years old.

I'm sure many high performance/high cost batteries (such as optima) produce much more power.
Definitely an Optima. I have the Red Top in my 96. 800 cca @0/ 1000 cca @ 32. All 3 Optima battery types (Red, Blue & Yellow) are built with severe conditions in mind.

Love mine. Fit with no trouble.

Walmart, Everstart Maxx, model number MAXX-1N. This is a perfect fit in both of my XJs and my bimbo box (93 Caravan).

I had to use the warranty on the battery in my 92 XJ about a week ago. It developed one dead cell. Went into the auto service dept, showed them the receipt, and 20 minutes later I was driving away with a brand new battery installed.

Oh, the warranty starts over since it's a new battery:D
