What wheel bearings is everyone upgrading or swapping to?

I'm at a dilemma. I need to do (probably all 4 wheel bearings/hubs) on my 08 crd.

I've found several companies but there isn't a clear winner in terms of reviews.

Timken used to be one of the best and we use them on our locomotives at work, however that have since switched production to China.

Detroit axle is made in USA (i spoke with them directly) but they either have 1 or 5 star reviews

Moog(usually USA made) has been one of my favorites for suspension for years and they usually have high quality stuff, however I've read some bad reviews with them.

The only other option might be factory oem(but I've heard they might be timken as well?)

Anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone make a "heavy duty" setup

I am not looking for anything made in China, this is non-negotiable.

Thank you

I've been running WJB economy line from Rock auto without issue. I drive 5-6 mi of bad gravel roads every day and of course -xx degrees in winter.

The first time you do them it's a bit of a pain cause they're corroded on, but a little anti seize on everything makes it an easy job after that.

The majority of cheaper bearings out there seem to be made in China. I went with an off brand from China for a great price, but they lasted only 1 year. Since, I've switched to GMB and I am now on 2 years with no issues. I don't expect them to last more than 4-5 years, but maybe they will.

I think your best bet is OEM.

Thank you everyone who responded.
Upon my research. This is where I'm further at
Moog is now China
Timken-China
OEM-Korea
SKF-China
Detroit axle the only USA made company...
This is really disturbing now...
I guess I'll give Detroit a shot..

Anything but China is good. When China manufacturers contract they ask "how many you want, how much you pay." In general, when any other Country manufactures they ask for specifications and quote a price.

Korea delivers to the makers specifications in both materials and machining.

China has manufacturing plants that are profit centers. When profits count, machines do not get maintained until they break (regardless of tolerances) and the least expensive metals are sourced.

WJB?
Mevotech?[/QUOTE]

From every seller I asked, also China.. which sucks because wjb had a "heavy duty" version as well..

The only reason not to go with the OEM is they are like $250 each... I'm not spending $1000 on hubs... Especially at my miles

I think whoever you talked to at Detroit Axle who said they were made in the USA was lying to you. They are or at least were from China 100%....the price alone says that. I've used them before and they were ok, but definitely lower end no name rebranded china parts.
Trust me if they were made in the USA they'd be shouting it from the rooftop on their website...which they aren't.
Then there's this

the Mopar OEM ones went about 140k before one failed for me, replaced it with another Mopar rather than playing roulette with another brand. the parts market has really taken a nosedive in the past ten or fifteen years... i've replaced far too many aftermarket parts multiple times to keep trying that myself. i consider my time and the jeep being reliable too valuable to do a job twice in order to maybe save a hundred bucks on a part. others may value their time differently.

everything comes from china these days and what RCS1300 pointed out is spot on - china will build to whatever standard the manufacturer wants, high quality high price, low quality low price, or anywhere in between. you get a ****ty aftermarket part from china? be upset with the vendor - it is what they asked for

Detroit Axle hubs are what I would use on a vehicle that I was hoping to get a year or two more before it is put out to pasture. You pay 35 bucks for a wheel hub bearing you get a $35 wheel hub bearing.....from China so more like a marked up $15 wheel hub bearing. They are usuable but if you're replacing all four....you'll be replacing one or two of them again within a year or two.

I just put both fronts on mine, both Moog. The r/f is loose in the spline area and if you hard in reverse it clanks, then go semi hard on the gas in forward it clanks again!! the splines aren't tight, allows runup, then noise follows!! Drives me Nuts! Never did it until I changed the wheel bearings so I know it's not the axle. L/f seems fine. I doubt I'm going to replace it with another moog! It's a crap shoot on quality control. Going OE

I have the Mevotech Heavy Duty versions ordered, plan to be doing entire front end all new components, I had seemed to read mostly positive things about their supreme lineup, so I also got the majority of the front suspension components from Mevotech in their supreme offering, what isnt Mevotech I went with Moog... again not installed yet, but the Mevotech LCA's definitly seem an upgrade over stock, the links maybe slighlty better than stock, UCAs....well the stock style WK UCA just suck no matter who builds them, but am not quite ready to add any lift, so didn't want to let the UCA stay old stock ones and without lift can't install the JBAs yet. I like that the Mevotech has the greasable joints, i dont mind that task at all, as its only a small time addition to an oil change, and lets be honest, its a WK so I am working on it more often than not, so what another 5 minutes to grease a few joints. also i see it as a sort of help in the way that it forces you to at least somewhat look at the components, and thus more likely to catch an issue early on vs once it starts to make a noise or whatnot. I am hopeful on the Mevotech set up, especially the wheel hubs, not so worried about the rest bc I plan to pull the bushings from the stock one, when i get spare time POR-15 it and rebuild it with most likely JeePerf bushings, then in a handful of years would like to change over to better built front/rear arms/links and kings with just a bit of lift(less than 2") so the mevotechs will be gone in a few years anyway, but hopefully not the wheel bearings lol
