I am tired of checking sites that purport to provide a free VIN check then after entering the VIN and wading through a couple of steps they offer the report for a fee. :frown2: Is there a VIN look up site that is truly free?

Yeah, I'm thinking like BT that you're looking for a Carfax report that lists the vehicle's history, eg. accidents, dealer visits, ownership changes, etc. I don't know of any free ones either.

However if you are looking for manufacturer build sheet specs use the following:

Still works! Figured out my 2016 has the trailer tow package. Heavy Duty cooling found! (y)

Go to the following thread:

Sticky: Welcome, Using the WK2 Forum, and Basic WK2 Information (FAQ)

Post #4 by ColdCase includes 2 links. The first one works to bring up my Build Sheet in just seconds.

I used this when shopping for my WK2. Dealers don't know how the hell to properly list a vehicles equipment. Many times they were outright wrong. I got told "this jeep has QDII yes sir" so many times, incorrectly of course.

There are a few members discussing Kaiser Willys CJs including 1955 era. Perhaps someone there can help.

Shamelessly stolen from the web

from '46 - '50 1/2 they had the flater grill, flat (no rib on top) fender and thin profile hood (at the radiator).
'48 thru '50 had a stainless steel "t" bar grille trim. The hood had the script "jeep"station sedan". From '49 and on the 4x4's had the script "4 Wheel Drive"
Starting in mid '50 they had a styling change that included larger grill with 5 horizontal chrome bars, the fenders have a rib on top and the hood has a thick rounded profile (at the radiator).
In '52 and '53 they were the same but now have the 3-winged hood ornament which are used on the station wagons only. The hood gets a horizontal chrome trim on both sides and so does the cowl.
'54 and '55 the changes were only that the grille now has 3 chrome bars; top, bottom, and center.
'56 grille changed the location of the chrome bars to top, bottom and up one from center. The stainless steel trim now goes from grille to taillight.
'56 1/2 and '57 was the same but they added the 4" hole on the passanger side of the grille for heater air intake.
'58 thru '64 grille went back to the 3 chrome bar locations of top, bottom and center. They also re-shaped the front turn signal to 2.5" dia.

I hope that somewhere in all that you find the answer to your question. The trucks have a few differences, mainly scripting...

The above info is courtesy of @Gojeep , who probably can identify the year for you, (and is building the coolest willys pickup of all time)

To my knowledge, they are a simply called kaiser willys pickup trucks?

Yours is apparently a 1958 based on the first part of the serial number, 6-226 4WD pickup, 55268, and an early run based in the production serial numbers of that year being 40155-45814 (a total run of 5660 units built in that configuration)
