On Uconnect 8.4 when the phone rings its so loud its heart stopping. I adjust the volume while its ringing, but next time the phone rings its back to ear piercing volume . . . has anybody found a fix for this?

I am able to adjust the ringer volume up or down, and it stays where I adjust it to. Turn the volume knob or push the volume toggle swith on the steering wheel when the phone is ringing. Obviously you have tried this, I just wanted to let you know it worked on mine.

Perhaps you need the latest flash.

Not sure if this has been resolved. We have had the same issue on the uuconnect 8.4an and this is how we solved it ...
1. Have someone ring.
2. While its ringing adjust the volume with the radio volume dial till its at an acceptable level.
3. Now answer the call. If the speech volume is ok then fine. If the speech volume is too low then alter the volume on your PHONE until it's Ok through the vehicle speakers.
Since we did this all has worked well and the settings in the vehicle for ring volume are remembered, and provided the speech volume has not been altered on the phone then the speech is also ok. Our phones are Nokia 920 models.

I've gotten calls with my phone on both ringer on and vibrate. My ringer volume on my phone isn't all that loud to begin with. But the UConnect ringer is extremely loud compared to everything else with volumes in there, especially the in-call volume! It should be a separate setting. Plain and simple. It almost gave me a heart attack yesterday because the in-call volume was set so high from the previous caller talking so quietly. I've emailed FCA about it. We'll see what they say.

Every feature that has volume control is adjusted by the volume knob on the radio when that particular feature is active. When you are getting an alert from the Nav system the volume knob will adjust the Nav alert volume, when you receive a phone call and the phone is ringing the volume knob will adjust the ringer volume, when you are in the middle of a call the volume knob will adjust the call volume, etc... The feature you want to control has to be active in order for the volume knob to affect it.

One forum member was turning down the volume knob because he couldn't hear Nav alerts and he wanted to turn down the radio volume. By adjusting the volume down during a Nav alert, all he was doing is turning down the Nav alert volume.

You might want to contact Jeep if you don't like the functionality, but I suggest you understand the functionality first. It actually is quite plain and simple.

Uconnect phone ring volume

I have found that Uconnect is interacts well with apple phones. I have an LG G3 and my wife an Iphone. Both are paired to my 2014 Jeep Cherokee (bought in Sept 2013). The latest software update has been applied to my
Uconnect system as of 6-12-15. On an incoming call to the iphone the alert ring follows that set in the Iphone. There is no problem. Incoming alert tone is at a reasonable loudness and not too loud, but this is not the case with the G3.
On an incoming call to the paired G3 a default ring tone, apparently comes from the Uonnect system due to incompatabilities between the G3 & the Uconnect system. In essence the G3 ringtone set in the phone is not applied as the Iphone
does and that's where the problem lies. The volume on the (let's call it the default ringtone of the Uconnect system) is adjustable and one can lower the volume on this tone while the ringing is occuring. Also this ringing usually defaults to 30
on the volume control, 16 is good for me in order to hear someone. Now if I turn the ringing tone down to say 13 which is pleasant to me and answer the call I cannot hear the person at the other end, which necessitates my turning up the
volume control. Once this is done the ringer tone will jump back to 30 and knock your socks off. The fix would be in two ways: have an adjustment dedicated to the default ringtone separate from the voice volume control, or get Uconnect to
work with Lg or any other manufacturer that has this problem. Also G3 is android and is equipped with latest firmware. I hope this sheds a little light on the subject. i am contacting Uconnect again to see if they can provide a fix for this. I have
worked with Uconnect and At&t trying to resove this manner. I told them this is a health & safety concern.

Thanks for sharing your experience bastiani. I wouldn't be surprised if Uconnect interacts differently with Android as it does iOS. I have a Droid Turbo with the latest Android and my experience is similar, but slightly different than yours with your G3. I really hope there's a Uconnect update soon that takes care of this. I'll be working with my dealer in the meantime to try and get a fix. The last time I talked to Jeep about it, they wouldn't tell me anything. Just, "take it to your dealer."

Shrill Ring Tone 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Has anyone found a fix to this. I thought with the most recent update it might fix it. I have a LG V10 phone, although I understand that Samsung and IPhone use the ringtone programmed in their phone. Mine does not and I literally almost have a heart attack when I answer the phone. I jump and my hands come off the steering wheel because it scares the living H__L out of me. Otherwise I absolutely love my car!

Add me to this list - my 2018 WK2 also has the problem with the default ringer volume (and in call volume) resetting every time I get a call. It doesn't matter if its the same paired session or not (meaning two calls while phone is connected via bluetooth, car never turned off), or a few days later. My ringer volume on the Uconnect resets to "15" when the incoming call is happening which is close to ear piercingly loud. The only acceptable volume is "1" - everything else is too loud. No matter what I do on the uconnect side, it resets to '15" so next time the phone rings, same problem. I have tried adjusting the volume level and even set my phone to silent mode and it makes no difference. The bluetooth volume level on the uconnect side does not honor what the level on my phone is.

I'm pretty happy with my new jeep, but this one issue is EXTREMELY annoying.

So, I just purchased a 2018 JGC limited with the latest Uconnect w Nav. After reading this post i wated to see how mine was working...literally just got the car a week ago, so still figuring out everything...

We use Apple phones (for now) and like the OP, every time a call comes thru, the ring comes in BLARING on the speakers. The volume says 15 when the call comes in. I proceed to turn the volume knob down to about 1 where it is actually tolerable to hear, before answering the call. I hang up, and call again...exact same results, BLARING RING at volume 15.

Anyone have any idea how to remedy this?

Haven't tried it plugged into USB port yet, this is happening with bluetooth.

I was asked by Kori - the "JeepCares" official rep who posts on here to send a PM about this issue. I sent details to her - exactly like you mentioned where it goes to "15" each time and "1" really is the only acceptable volume with no way to get the volume to persist between calls. The "in-call" volume also resets to 15 as well. I thought it was an Android only thing, did not realize it happened on IPhone either.

At anyrate, she did indicate that the Uconnect folks are aware of the issue and they have received complaints/feedback from several customers on this and are working on a fix - but no ETA on when it will be ready to be deployed/updated on our Uconnect systems.

I really enjoy my new JGC, but I do have a few gripes with the vehicle - this volume issue being on the top of the list of them.

Interesting point out on the USB connection you made - I have not tried that either. I wonder if it will make a difference? I will try it later today.

I think Kori is monitoring this thread below here if you want to chime in over there so it gets more exposure:

It isn't fixed for older models. I have a '14 that has had a similar issue since day 1. The volume holds though, it doesn't reset. But I have my phone volume up to about 20 just to hear the other person talking. You can imagine how loud the ringer is (and the heart attacks I've had) when a call comes through.

The worst part is that I've been mentioning this to UConnect for years and the software updates never address it. When I mentioned it directly to Kori, he said he'd never heard about it and couldn't promise an update for it. It's a lost cause for me, they won't care about my 4 year old vehicle. Hopefully they correct it for you newer owners though.

Same issue 17 JGC

I just got a new (to me) Grand Cherokee and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this Jeep... aside from this. It about kills me when I had to call UConnect to get the stuff set up, and whenever I get a call, which, thankfully for my heart) doesn't happen very often. It kills me that they haven't been able to fix this yet, or give us a setting to change the ringtone volume separate from the call volume. Same thing here, I turn all the way down when it's ringing, but then you can't hear the person speaking, so you have to turn it up, and heaven forbid you forget to turn it back down by the time your call is disconnected.

PLEASE fix this!!

Loud Phone Ringing through UConnect

I am thankful to have found this thread as the phone ringing in my Dodge Durango through UConnect is heart-stopping, annoying, and damaging to the ears. A post early on in the thread suggested a fix that actually worked for me: 1) Have someone call your phone. 2) As the phone is still ringing (before you answer the call), turn down the knob that adjusts your radio volume. Then decline the call. After I completed these simple steps, I had the person call my phone again so that I could test whether the UConnect system in fact remembered the ring volume setting, and it did, even after turning off the car and restarting. So I want to say THANK YOU to the poster who suggested this. I, too, am using an Android phone.

Did that affect your in-call volume? I'll adjust the ring volume, but then I have to turn it back up because the in-call volume is so low. Next incoming call, ear-piercing again. I have never seen or tried your method though.

Steiner84: You're right, it does affect the in-call volume. However, I was able to play around with it to find a volume that is acceptable for both in-call and the ring. Initially when I tackled the problem, I saw that the ring volume was almost maxed out as shown on the volume indicator bar. Turning the volume setting to the mid-point, about 20, was an acceptable volume for both the ring and the call. As another poster mentioned, you can also adjust the volume on the phone itself, but that does defeat the purpose of the hands-free feature.

Yep about 20 is where I try to keep mine set as well. Occasionally that quiet talker causes me to turn it way up and I usually don't get the volume turned back down before the call ends. So you know how that story pans out. I was hoping you had a way to force the ringer volume down for good.

This has been an issue for me since I bought my Jeep 5 years ago. Through many Uconnect updates and everything, FCA just doesn't care to fix it.

Still..... really?

Super distressed! After purchasing a new 2018 Grand Cherokee, I and sometimes passengers have had numerous heart stopping, excessively loud ringing for incoming calls. Totally unacceptable and unsafe. What is just absolutely unconscionable is the fact that this has been a KNOWN issue for so many years and yet Jeep/Uconnect have failed to address and fix it. Makes me wonder what else is wrong with my vehicle that Jeep knows about and definitely question my choice. I will not forget this when it comes to replace this vehicle.....

@JeepCares, what gives? Two years I've had this JGC and still hasn't been fixed. This is pathetic! Hands free laws are everywhere now, and the fact that this hasn't been resolved makes me rethink buying another one. If you get a phone call, it literally scares everyone in the car, it's startling. Millions sold, no fix, only excuses and pass offs. Seems like a simple software issue would fix this issue that annoys everyone since MY2014.

same here. I have a 2020 jeep wrangler sahara and no matter how many times i turn the call ringer volume down when ringing, as soon as that call is over, it goes back to ear piercing ring volume. I jump out of my skin every time I get a call. I have turned all sounds off on my phone and the car volume is still defaulted to 15. Nothing, and I mean nothing, permanently adjusts the ring volume. Really need a fix for this soon, my ears are still ringing from trying to adjust it today.
