Gentlemen,
I have just put new winter wheels on my Grand Cherokee 2015 version that do not have pressure monitorig sensors. Do you know how I can switch off the TPMS system so it does not show the yellow lamp continuously on and display the message that tyre pressure is -- on the dashboard.

I used to have Grand Cherokee 2013 version and TPMS system alarms were switching off after three engine starts. It does not happen in 2015 version.

Can you help?

Regards,
Tmxdiver

The export version may be different but the only way I know of is to become conditioned to the lamp and ignore it or put some black tape over the lamp. Sensors are ~$50 US a set of four on ebay. Dunno about shipping to London of if the British ebay lists them.

There are two types of TPMSs, one displays the pressure, the other just a warning. Did both WK2s have the same system?

I don't think the NorthAmerican version ever extinguished the warning lamp. It would flash for awhile and go solid.

There is the base TPMS system and the premium system. Looks like the premium system is standard equipment on all models now, in 2013 premium was not standard.

Hi,
Thank you all for replies. Both my versions 2013 & 2015 had tyre pressure displayed. The version 2013 (S-limited) reseted after a few engine starts, yellow warning lamp was off and tyre pressure display was showing dashes only when selected. The version 2015 (Overland) behaves quite differently. The audible alarm was just after the wheels change and then went off, but the lamp stays on and every time I switch the engine on it shows me the page with tyre pressures page with dashes and red warning colours. If it was just a lamp it would be fine, but it sets the display to tyre pressure page every time I start the engine...

Ryan, I will post you my VIN. Any help would be welcome.

Canadian vehicles, perhaps other exports, used to have a winter mode. If there are no sensors installed (all four fail at the same time), the system reports a fault until the next ignition cycle. After the ignition cycle the TPMS enters deactivation (winter) mode where the telltales are not illuminated and tire pressure is displayed as dashes. A DTC fault is stored for this condition.

I dunno if 2014s+ have the same mode, but look through the owners manual for TPMS deactivation or winter mode. If someone has a 2014+ FSM, double check it. I'm guessing there are some contries that require TPMS disable. US vehicles won't have a winter mode. Since the PCM/TIPM/ECM/ABS may be expecting CAN bus data from the TPMS module, pulling the fuse may set another kind of fault, but I dunno. Doesn't hurt to try? Has anyone done this?

Remember that export vehicles may work a bit different.

In the 2011 FSM, I found it in DTC-Based Diagnostics > Module, Tire Pressure >, Diagnosis and Testing > C1597-00-TPM Deactivation Winter Mode.

Yup. That's where it was, and looks like it is unchanged for 2014 from what you found.

C1597-00-TPM SYSTEM DEACTIVATED-WINTER MODE
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

NOTE: Check for and remove any non-FCC compliant components before beginning this diagnostic procedure.

Theory of Operation

NOTE: When this DTC is active the TPM Module will enter a deactivation mode (Winter Mode) and the TPM system becomes deactivated. If winter tires and wheel assemblies are installed no repair is required.

The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Module determines the TPM Sensor positions by performing the vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) Sensor locate procedure. This procedure is run after the vehicle has been stationary for 20 minutes. After driving the vehicle at speeds greater than 24 km/h (15 mph) for a minimum of 10 minutes without the TPM Sensor installed, the TPM Module sends a bus message commanding the TPM telltale lamp to flash for 75 seconds. After the 75 seconds of flashing, the lamp will remain on solid and a chime will be heard. The message center will display SERVICE TPM SYSTEM for five seconds and shut off, all while the tire pressure values will be displayed as dashes. After the ignition has been cycled off and on the TPM telltail lamp will remain off, the message center will no longer display SERVICE TPM SYSTEM, and the tire pressures continue to be displayed as dashes.

When Monitored:
During vehicle TPM Sensor locate process.

Set Condition:
For BUX/Canada vehicles only where all four TPM Sensors fail the locate processes at the same time because the TPM sensors are not installed on winter tire and wheel assemblies.

So we either missed something or tmxdiver's vehicle is not operating the way it should.

Not sure what BUX means. All I could find:

"cars assembled in the country of origin and exported whole to the destination market are known as BUX (for built-up export)"

I suspect BUX is all markets except the US and Canada.

I think that means WK2s built for England is BUX coded and therefore should have TPMS winter mode... unless the FSM has outdated information... like that never happens :)

I asked Jeep garage to order them for me and fit them in as sensors needed to be programmed. I have done it in Poland and paid around ÂŁ200 for 4 sensors and labour including wheel balancing.

In the UK they quoted me ÂŁ100 per sensor in the past, but I believe they are cheaper now.

TPM sensors do not need to be programmed. The vehicle will "learn" them with a few miles of driving. You just have to make sure they are the correct frequency (433 Mhz). The Chrysler part number is 56029398AB.
