I know there's another thread about this way downstream, but I decided to open a new one.
Long time lurker - first time posting.
I have a 2018 Trailhawk with 27K miles and virtually no issues so far, that is until the dreaded "Service Shifter" warning light started intermittently showing up about 4 months ago. It happened first when shifting the transmission into manual mode heading downhill on a steep, rugged, 4WD logging road here in the Southern Oregon Siskiyou Mtns. All the red warning lights adjacent to the gear designations came on. Manual gearing was not available at all. Fortunately, stopping the vehicle, turning the engine off and back on seemed to reset everything. I made it home with no further issues.
This started happening with ever increasing regularity, almost predictably when I was off-highway on steep rock-crawling roads where I needed manual control the most. But turning the car off and back on always seemed to reset the warning.
I didn't worry that much until I read another Forum user's incredibly dangerous story of his transmission seizing at freeway speed, causing a near-tragic crash.
I took my Trailhawk to Lithia Jeep here in Medford, OR and the service department was not unaware of this particular issue. They replaced the transmission shifting wiring harness and relay at no charge to me.
I'll report again if there's anything further to discuss. I urge fellow owners to keep a close eye on this and take theirs in immediately if you see the "Service Shifter" warning.
I would guess that this problem must be approaching the threshold of a model-wide factory recall.
