Reset Navigation on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

My navigator is lost (i.e. it doesn't know where I am). It was working fine, and then just zipped of several miles away. It won't come back to my location. I'm thinking I need to pull the fuse for it, but can't figure out which fuse.

Anyone else have this problem?

Navigation problems usually means one of the cards failed in the radio or there are memory/hard drive issues. A battery disconnect will always reset the radio regardless of year. Some years had a fuse in the fuse box, others had one draped along the engine compartment wire harness, on the firewall, others had nothing. I don't recall, off hand, what a 2014 has.

I figured out the problem, and it's not software at all. I checked to see if my radio was receiving GPS satellite information and it is not. It looks like I have a bad connector somewhere most likely - probably by the shark fin antenna.

You can check satellite reception by going to:
Navigation // Information // Where Am I? / and then GPS. (You can thank Blueberry Coupe for that tidbit of info).

Another interesting tidbit on that thread from Blueberry Coupe - our Nav systems also have built in inertial navigation...

Thanks for the info. Charlie

I think you will find that only the early model Harmon 730Ns had dead reckoning (2011-2013). Comes in handy driving mazes of tunnels downtown Boston.

A defective wireless card will also indicate no GPS signal, not necessarily a bad cable/antenna.

Hum, defective wireless card would be a bummer. Can the wireless card be replaced? (Or do I have to replace the whole radio).

On the inertial nav, a couple of weeks ago I was driving through the Oakland tunnel (Calif), and I was surprised that my navigator continued to work.

I'm going to check the shark fin antenna and connections tomorrow. Hopefully that will help.

Most modern GPSs will continue to make an educated guess based on wireless WiFi and Cell signals and their maps, but their accuracy eventually drifts. Short tunnels are usually not a problem, nor the skyscraper canyons of big cities.

Corrosion has been reported here a couple times and cleanup or replacement antennas fixed the problem, if I recall correctly. So there is a good chance, hope it works out for you.

Well bummer. I replaced the shark fin antenna and the radio still doesn't see any gps signals. I tried to get to the back of the radio through the glove box area to check the cables, but it's not accessible from there. While doing that I found an antenna cable connection on the right hand side near the door, and plugged in my old (and presumably still working) antenna. Nothing.

I disconnected the battery on the slim chance that the system just needed a reset. No luck with that either.

My next step is to see if I can get the radio out and check cables, and also see if there is some sort of reset. I did see a "reset" on the radio's menus somewhere, but I'm not sure where that was or what it will do.

If none of that works, or is too hard, I'll likely just take it to the dealer and ask them to diagnose and advise. If repair is too expensive, I'll live without, as my phone navigates just fine.

I pulled the radio, checked out the cables, and still nothing. As a last resort I'm going to invest $230 having the Jeep dealer diagnose and advise on the problem. Maybe it just needs a software reset or reinstall, or perhaps it's a bad cable. At worst, the radio is bad. If it's the radio, maybe I'll just have to get used to using my iPhone and carplay, since everything else works fine.

One interesting item to note; when I pulled the radio I was surprised to see that it had a manufacture date of March, 2018. I purchased the car September, 2018, so the radio had been replaced just a few months before.

The saga continues... My appointment with the Jeep dealer is Feb 8.
