Does anyone have any ideas? Should I grind edges on it to try and fit vise-grips on it? When I lived in Utah a tire shop said they can do it no problem, they just use an impact with a large socket over it and break it loose. Went to two tire shops down here, one said they couldn't and the other wanted to charge me an hours worth of labor ($90).

Iit's doubtful you could get enough grip on it to remove it with visegrips. I would just pound a one-size smaller socket onto the locking lug nut and use a wrench to remove it. If it's your spare tire, try deflating it to see if that loosens the tire up from the mount enough to remove it.

I took mine to Tire Barn. They had it off in 2 minutes. Unfortunately, they got me for like $15. My dealership wouldn't touch it. You might check and see if any other of your local tire installers will do it.

step 1: find a freind with a jeep

step 2: borrow key

step 3: take off locking lug/lugs

step 4: buy set of normal lugs

step 5: replace

I dont recommend driving with only 4 lugs on your wheels. THis is what I did, I only had a locked lug on the spare, and the PO had lost the key.

pipewrench

I used a pipewrench on some on my TA (idiot sold it to me and lost socket before I picked it up). The harder you pull the tighter it gets, the teeth eventually bite into the metal and a few spins later I took them off by hand. They're chewed up afterwards but that doesn't matter.

I work at Discount Tire Co. so i do this every now and then. All you need is a mini sledge or hammer and a socet that you wouldn't care about tearing up. the socket needs to be not to big to slide over the whole thing, but just big enough to grab the outside. beat the socket on the lock with everything you got, and we use an impact, but a breaker bar might work. if you bought a kit it would be easier, since they give you sockets that taper in and would go on easier. well i hope this was helpful. let me know if you get it off or have questions.

Addition : I didn't read all of the post, now that i read it there ARE wheel lock kits with 5 locks and a key. Gorilla makes it, you just have to call them to get it. I have a set of 5 on my TJ. And if you use the beating the socket on method try not to miss the socket. If the guy with the 20" centerline wheels reads this im sorry i have bad aim :brickwall

Dremel and vice grips definitely work. This was after several other methods failed.

If I had it to do over again, I'd bash a Craftsman socket on there. Once removed I'd take the socket back to Sears for a replacement.
