My wife noticed that her car does not unlock as she approaches it as it has done before. I replaced the battery and it still does not work. The fob itself works as I can still unlock, lock open the lift gate etc. I tried mine and got the same result.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Remote unlock and start uses a different module than passive entry. Are you saying that when you touch the inside of the door handle, the doors won’t unlock and won’t lock with the little lock button? And it starts fine when you push to start?

Coldcase: Touching the door handle and button along with remote start still work fine.
Roadijeff: Ours does have that feature. As you approach the vehicle it senses the fob and unlocks before touching the handle. I'd say when you get within a couple feet of the Jeep.

Proximity is not normal operation for any OEM WK2. They are not suppose to unlock unless you touch the sensor, but the sensors can sometimes pick up certain individuals at a distance, depending on weather conditions. They can be set off by car washing when the fob is in the area. Sometimes you may see the lights flash when walking by, but normally not an unlock.

This feature was pointed out to us when we purchased it. Our company purchased 2 new Ram 1500 trucks. We asked why the proximity function did not work and the salesman said, "that's included on the next tier up package". Not our package unfortunatley.

I called the dealership and they said it was never an option on any Mopar product. So, perhaps the salesman was mistaken.

I do notice that the lights would flash when at the car wash.

Makes sense for safety reasons.

Its possible the computer was interpreting stuck sensors as a touch, interrogating the FOB, and when a valid response was received, unlocked the door.

In other words, there was/is a defect where the sensor is so sensitive that the computer thinks someone is touching the sensor. It won't unlock unless there is a valid FOB in range.

Not sure about 2019s, but RAMs and Jeeps through 2018 never had a proximity option regardless of trim. Some salesmen may be confusing passive entry with proximity. Passive entry is an option.

If approaching the vehicle with the fob (without pressing unlock) would unlock the doors, how could you ever lock you car? This does not seem like a 'feature'.
The passive locking/unlocking feature on my Z06 (thankfully disabled in the settings) unlocks as you approach the vehicle with a fob and locks when you walk away and it no longer senses the fob.

That is dumb, I have a 2016 overland and it randomly started doing this. It’s a key feature that they come with.

That’s is absolutely a feature and one that love, my hands are always busy and it’s nice to not have to press the key fob while juggle groceries. Everyone stop thinking it’s not a feature it absolutely is, when you walk away from the car it locks its self. All the higher end models have this. I am so confused as to why people think this doesn’t exist lol.

Some models, certainly not all of them. It does run down the batteries quicker.

The door handle sensor can get activated by moisture and can change characteristics over time. When the sensor activates the security module will interrogate for a FOB, like it would when you touch the handle.

Google “Jeep Keyless enter n go” it tells you that you have to grab the door handle to unlock the vehicle. Some call it passive unlock/lock but it’s more of a semi passive unlock/lock. You have to grab the door handle to unlock and press the inside or outside lock button to lock

This is the exact problem I'm having! Key fob works fine, vehicle starts fine , but when I put my hand in the door handle doesn't unlock anymore neither does the little lock button. I tried the trunk also doesn't work until I unlock the doors with the fob physically! Any idea what can cause this? Noticed it after getting home from a car wash

Usually this is a bad antenna module or disconnected antenna(s). The one under the carpet near the tailgate latch most often. Did you do interior vacuuming at the car wash?

You would need a full feature scanner to read the body module codes that can help isolate the problem.

Depending on model year, water leaking from the windshield can drip on the under dash body control module and cause it to fail.
