This past weekend I've been reading a ton of oil threads, I've narrowed it down: Shell Rotella T6 or Pennzoil Platinum Or Pennzoil Ultra

In my ZJ 4. SLOW, I ran T6 for years with no problems.

Now, I have a 2003 4.7 HO with 168K on the motor. I think I am going to run Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra.... Either 5w30 or 10w30. I live in Illinois so I see both extreme cold and hot temps.

As for an oil filter, same oil filter I ran in my ZJ, FL-1A.

Before my oil change I am going to run some Seafoam through my oil system, then do an oil and filter change. I am waiting for my magnetic oil pan drain plug to arrive first.

So given my choices, which oil would you run?

Your jeep won't know the difference so pick whatever oil makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

This, mostly.

The T6 is a heavier weight than the 5w30 recommended by the factory, but you or your engine will not notice. I would recommend sticking with the 10w30 in the warmer months and going with a 5w30 in the winter months. I would have to look back at my notes, but I believe that they also recommend a synthetic oil. If you take your jeep off road, then following the heavy service maintenance intervals wouldn't hurt either.

I just ordered 2 jugs and 1 quart of Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 5w30 for my Jeep from Walmart.

I went to the store knowing they didn't stock it but I had to go anyways for a couple of other items. It sure would be nice if they stocked Ultra

Yesterday I did the first oil change since buying my Jeep is July. PO did oil china he's every 4,500 miles or so using synthetic.

So I made the switch to Pennzoil Platinum Ultra, changed the drain plug to a magnetic drain plug and used the FL-1A oil filter

Unless you're hauling or doing a very lot amount of offroading 4500 miles is such a waste of good synthetic oil.

I get 5000 on conventional

Hi Guys,
My name is Marco, I write you from Milan, Italy.

I have a 4.7 HO WJ, my2002; I use to do myself the oil change, the first time I did it on my WJ I found a strange thing...
Here

I found a Ford drain plug sealed with silicon rubber, and, under the plug, "something" that I couldn't recognize.
I tryed to remove that "ring", but it seems a part of the thread.

I had to use again the Ford plug with the correct seal, without that silicon rubber...; everything works properly, but I would like to understand what was that "thing"

Do you have any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

P.s. Sorry for my english....

to me it looks like someone installed a threaded insert to repair messed up threads from the original drain hole.

Get a aluminum or copper washer. They will crush and seal off any leaks.

A good place to find those washers are a motorcycle shop.

I've been running the T6 in my Wj for 50k miles without issue. My vette and 2 of my bikes have probably another 50k combined and never any issues.
I am on my phone, is your WJ a I6 or V8? I used T6 in my ZJ I6 and it was perfect.

In my WS6 I used Pennzoil Platinum 10w30

It's been no surprise T6 is one of many perfect oils for L6s for a long time. 4.0s produce the least amount of wear metals typically with oils that have a thickness (HT/HS) >= 3.3. Rotella T6 having a HT/HS of 4.0 makes it nice and thick and the 5w40 rating is perfect for these jeeps. But any thick oil being xw30 or xw40 will suffice. Whether German Castrol 0w30 or Mobil 1 0w40 the list goes on.

I personally think Chevron Delo 400LE 5w40 has a better add pack than T6 and can be found cheaper but the difference is negligible between the HDEO oils like Delo, Rotella or Delvac etc. across all ratings.
