Oil leak under intake manifold

I just rebuilt the engine. I started the engine to let it run and check for leaks. After 15 minutes, oil starting pouring down the passanger side above starter. I took the starter off to get a better view. The oil was coming from back of head area. I took the intake manifold off to get a better view, under the intake in rear of engine had oil about 1/4 inch deep.

Where is this oil coming from ? I know I'm missing something.

I reused the old head bolts.. could that cause the oil leak ?

According to the service manual, the 4 small head bolts require a sealer on them or leaks will occur. It does not say what will leak, just leaks. Did you check the bolts condition, because they are a strech bolt. If they were stretched too far in the first place, they are no good.

I would like to bump this as I have a very similar oil leak. What is actually under the intake manifold that can leak oil? New valve cover gaskets, all new breather tubes, PCV tubes, etc. and I still have oil leaking from the rear of the intake and running down the block. I have no problem pulling the intake to repair it but I want to have the correct o-rings or whatever on hand to repair it.

The oil was leaking from between the head and block. I bought new head bolts and a new head gasket. It doesn't leak anymore

Glad you found your answer. I fear mine may be the same thing. I can think of no other place for the oil to be coming from.

Glad you found it also. I believe that mine has the same problem too. Leaking in the same place, all other seals are new. ugh
