From my research I don't see anyone that makes a dash rail to mount an iPad or smartphones on the dash. If someone knows of one let me know. Has anyone done a diy for this?
I was planning on making my own and just drilling through the dash to mount it

I installed this rail on my dash.

Allows me to use RAM mounts for any type of device I need.
Did you just screw it into the dash? Seems like the dash would need to be drilled and long bolts would need to be used because the dash is soft so I would think you wouldn't be able to screw into it.

Panavise might have something. I have two of the 75122-201 mounts with two of the 15585 phone grips. They make other kinds of mounts too ... flex mounts, pedestal mounts, data terminal mounts ... but you will have to get creative attaching them to your WJ.

Yes! Screwed it in. Really simple. I post pictures later when I get home. Easy to access from behind my radio due to the double din stereo I installed.

Here is your answer: Panavise Custom InDash Mount for Jeep Grand Cherokee, LTD, Laredo '99-04
RAM Mounts Ball Adapter with AMPS Plate RAM-B-347U with B Size 1" Ball
Very easy installation, will mount to either side of the radio and is very sturdy. I installed one on my wife's '04 Limited to hold a tablet. I plan to add another one for the other side for a mic holder when I get around to installing a GMRS radio. Bolt the RAM mount adapter to the Panavise mount and the sky is the limit at that point.
