Help changing park assist sensors

I took my Jeep Grand Cherokee (2006 3.0 CRD) to the Jeep main dealers yesterday for them to fix the Service Park Assist warning that has been coming on all the time of late. They basically hooked up their scanner and said that 2 sensors were faulty and I would need to book it in again if I wanted them changing:mad:

Anyway I have ordered 2 new sensors and plan to change them out myself as it cost ÂŁ102 just to tell me that 2 sensors had failed and I needed a new Speed sensor for the Bear side rear wheel (another fault).

What I am after is just some pointers as to how to change these out. It looks like the reat facia has to come off to get to the sensors. As I am not sure which the 2 faulty sensors are (Jeep never told me), is there anyway of determining this just by swapping old/new sensors about or does the facia have to go on eah time to prevent faulty readings etc...

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

AndyT:thumbsup:

Well my rear sensors arrived today but when I phoned Jeep to ask which 2 were defective (as per Mondays Diagnostics of them) they said they are actually front sensors not rear sensors so I have 2 rear sensors which I don't need:mad:

They have quoted me ÂŁ306 (approx $490) to fit 2 new front sensors which includes painting them black to match the bodywork which seems an awful lot seeing as the rear sensors cost ÂŁ26 each).

Anyway, does anyone have a part number for a new front Park sensor, its for a 2006 Grand Cherokee 3.0CRD. In fact is there anywebsite we can use to get Jeep part numbers??

Many thanks in advance.

regards

06 WK has front parking sensors?

hm, US spec WKs never had front parking sensors.. I do see them in the 06 WH parts catalog.. looks like 5HX08SZ0AB , which is the same part number as the rear sensors according to the catalog I have..

I've just been looking at all the online mauals for the 2006-2008 WK and as you say they only show the rear sensors (4 off). The rear ones are chrome (part No. 5HX08SZ0AB as you say) however the front ones need to be painted to match your car colour but seem to come as standard in black which will be near enough for me as my car is black. I'll try and take off one of the front side ones tomorrow if its stopped snowing and see if I can get a number as the Jeep main agent is criminally expensive:eek:

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated.

Don't know if you got kids and like that alert stuff but if it were me , while i had it at the dealer with the start scan pluged in , i would have just told them to delete the system and be done with it .

Here's what I have; it shows the front and rear sensors to be the same part number, and only shows one part number for WH's ..

The US WK has two different rear park sensors listed, I suspect one is painted (5HX08SZ7AB) and the other (with the same part number as the WH) is chrome. But I don't really have any way to tell.

Thats interesting as it only shows 8 sensors (4 front and 4 rear). The UK model has 6 at the front and 4 at the rear. I may do something radical if they are a pain to remove and phone Jeep for a part number:laugh:

Thanks again,

Andy:thumbsup:

How is the dealer mech checking them?

I have that "service parking assitance" message going on meaning 1 or more sensors are gone. When I look in the service manual it only shows how to replace them, it doesn't show how to test which one is bad.

How do i find out which ones are bad?

The mechanic connects his Jeep scanner to the electronics and it tell him exactly which sensor is defective (in my case I had 2 defective sensors).

I'm sure a really expensive diagnostic tool will also check them but it seems the 'home use' diagnostic tool only reads fault codes and not specific sensors e.g. absds sensors and parking sensors.

Hi there. First post on here. I spotted your post on parking sensors. There is a really easy way to check which one(s) has/have gone wrong. I did exactly this on my Grand Cherokee 2006 CRD today. Turn on the engine and select reverse. Put the handbrake on nice and tight !! (V Important). Then leaving it in reverse, switch off the engine and turn ignition on so all electrics are working (so you can hear better with engine off). Get something like a pencil (but no sharp ends - cut the end off if need be as you don't want to perforate an ear drum !). Place one end of the pencil onto each of the parking sensors and your ear to the other end. If the parking sensor is good, you will hear a rapid ticking noise. If the sensor is bad then you will hear silence. This is simple and works very well. I don't know if it works with other vehicles but it works fine on Jeeps. You need quiet to hear it, but you will soon catch on.

Mine was a faulty one on the front bumper. Replacing it should have been a 30 min job but the fact that I had collided with a goose made it a but more tricky as some plastic had cracked so a spot or two of glue required. Hope this helps :)

Hello,
My first question will be here. I also get "service park assist system" message and am sick and tired of that.
At the time I bought my 2006 GC, 3.0 CRD; they all were working but, something happened later. The service told me that #8 at the rear bumper was faulty. I removed the plastic part of the rear bumper to check and replaced the #8 with a three-pin sensor (which was coming from a Peugeot 308). But nothing was changed.
So, where is the control module of the parking sensors located? I guess something happened because of some loose connection or corrosion.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

It's more likely you have damage somewhere else in the harness. The harness runs across the bumper and over to the driver side, where there is another larger connector. Inspect the loom and large connector for damage. You can also test the wires between the large connector and #8 connector for continuity and shorts to ground
