Hey guys,
I am looking to rebuild my grand cherokee but I am wanting to give it more HP, has anyone put a bigger engine in one of these and if so what was it? also are there many mods I can get for my 6 cylinder that will give it more power? like a lot more power? Also where is a good place to buy parts for it?
Regards David

anything is possible with enough money, that said, i've seen LSx swaps in jeeps, 5.9l swaps from magnums...sure there are bigger but really lots of power can be had by either of them...

as for the 6, yah you can do a 4.6-4.7 stroker motor and with cam and head work, you can easily get the thing up to 300hp+

another thing you might need to think about, with more power you will need to upgrade the rest of your drivetrain...axles, tranny...

i think you source a 4.2l crank and rods, (probably new pistons and have it bored out just a little to clean up the block) and that should get you to a basic 4.6l if my memory serves right. this gets you the torque from the 4.2l and the hp of the 4.0l...

once you get a different cam and some head work done thats where the majority of the power increase is

You would be better off starting with a v8 then stroking that. No comparison. Even with bolt ons like PCM tuner, throttle body, headers, exhaust, ported kegger mod or M1 intake, cam, ect. you will have as much torque or more than a stroked 4.0 and it would cost less. Then you could stroke it and it would be a raging beast. Or over bore it. Or you could spend 4 grand and supercharge the V8. You could drop a crate 360 in. Either way you will have a better platform to build more power from for less money. Either way you will probably have to beef up the transmission for either motor. The 4.0 has a pretty weak tranny.

There is a guy on here "TurboTPI" I think is his name. He put a turbo on his 4.0. Looks quick and sounds cool.

stroke it. Its expensive but worth it.
