OK, so I'm still having fun with my D300. Some of you may recall that my passenger side shift rail is broken on the shifter end. I'm going to work around that with one of JB Custom's twin stick shifters that place a sleeve over the end of the rail by welding that sleeve on.
My current problem is getting the passenger side rail out. The driver side is has been no issue, just rotate it like the guy from 5speeds.com does in his video (
) and it comes out. He says to do the same thing for the passenger side, but never shows it being done.
I can't get the passenger side to budge either in/out or in rotation from the position shown in the pics below. I've smacked it with a mallet as hard as I'm comfortable doing, especially on the broken end, squirted it full of penetrating oil, tried twisting and smacking at the same time, I can't twist it more than a few degrees (it does move freely for those few degrees) or move it much axially at all. Moving it axially takes the mallet to do. The T case shifted fine before I parked the Jeep, and this rod is oriented pretty much in the stock orientation. Any ideas on getting that shift rod out? Is there a magic combo of twist angle and pressure? Am I missing something obvious?
1st pic it's the upper most rod. Second pic is a closeup looking into the hole were I removed the indicator sensor, you can see the edge of one of the detent cutouts in the rod.
