Try turning off the proximity wake-up
I realize that I’m replying to an old thread here, but felt inclined to comment and possibly help anyone else that may still be having similar challenges, as am I. I have a factory build 24’ Summit Reserve.. Picked up from dealer Aug ‘24, barely drove it, came out to a completely dead car one day. Had it towed into the dealership.. Both batteries dead/replaced along with a blown fuse array. Dealer blamed me for an improper jump start, claiming that’s what blew the fuse array. Wrong. The car was never jumpstarted. They couldn’t figure anything else out. Today, pulled into the garage, locked the car and 30 mins later came out to the same clicking noises previously described from other users from passenger side rear, in addition, noticed that every 10 seconds, my dash was turning on and off with the “Press Brake and Push to Start” reminder. Confirmed with my Service Advisor just now that this is a known issue where the vehicle thinks the key fob is near, even though it’s not and will absolutely cause the battery to drain if unsuspected. As @dbisch72 suggested, along with my Service Advisor, you have to disable the Proximity Wake-Up feature under your “Lights” setting. My Service Advisor mentioned that Jeep is issuing a software upgrade in the coming months that will remedy this. Hope this helps!

Did turning off the Proximity Wake-Up stop the battery drain? New 2025 Summit Reserve here. In to dealer service every day for the week since delivery except two. Service appears clueless except for changing out batteries on first complaint. How can CDJR continue to sell vehicles with such known defects?

I haven’t had any issues with the batteries draining since I turned off the feature. Just waiting for Jeep to come out with the over the air update before turning back on.

Thanks much, Brian. Your reply is helpful. Appreciate knowing there might be some hope. Yesterday, dealer service thought that a faulty switch might be the causative problem.

Battery discharging started third day of ownership. Solutions are varied and some appear to be worthless grasping at straws.

Our dealer service tried three times in a week to repair without effectiveness. Less than 200 miles. 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve.

Has anyone received satisfaction from FCA/Stellantis Customer Service by filing a Lemon complaint? Considering going that route,

I bought a brand new 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited two weekends ago. I'd had it less than 48 hours and went to start it to find the battery totally dead. Jumped it and brought it to the dealership, who said they "reset the computer" but couldn't find anything wrong. Three days later, it happened again. This time, they say that "protective services" has been pinging the vehicle, which is what they suspect is causing the drain. They said Jeep has shut down the entirety of protective services for this reason.

Has anyone else heard of or experienced this? I'm suspect as to why this would affect my Jeep and not others.
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO SUE THE PANTS OFF OF STELLANTIS AND JEEP. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THESE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE OFF-ROAD VEHICLES. DO YOU WANT TO GO OFF-ROADING ON A CAMPING TRIP INTO A NO CELL AREA AND WAKE UP IN THE MORNING WITH A DEAD BATTERY? Dec. 20, 2024 new 2025 JGC Summit Reserve. Mid-January dead battery. Jumped and drove to Hannah service. Told got a new battery. Mid-February deader than a door nail battery. Back to Hannah, ran diagnostics, apparently did nothing. April 3, 2025: battery was so dead that jump start did not do it. Cannot open the rear door with a dead battery. So now I need to get it towed. Bought my first Jeep Cherokee in 1985 ..... As Roberto Duran so aptly said: No mas.

I have had my 24 GC Summit for 6 months now and no issues at all with the battery. Class action lawsuits are a joke. Only 2 sets of people make money on them, the lawyers for the plaintiff and defendant. The class generally gets little to nothing as the lawyers suck up all the money and the class is usually so large that when what is left is divided up, each person gets nothing. I was part of 2 large class action lawsuits and in one I got a pack of 10 blank CDs and the other a check for $10. Had 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 GCs and no battery issues with any of them. So while this happens, it does not happen to them all.

Do you have the Proximity Wake-Up feature turned on or off?
The thing that flashes your lights when you walk near the car? I had it on for about 3 months and then turned it off as I really did not like it. So for the 3 months it was on, the battery was OK. I cannot remember about all the other GCs I have had, not sure if they even had this feature.

Yes they are… We have a 2025 GC Summit purchased January 13th 2025. It has been back to the dealer 4 times for the same problems. The dealer has had the vehicle for over 75 days and Jeep can’t provide a fix. Basically they told us we have to take it back and when a fix is available they will let us know. This is the 6th jeep we have owned and will be the last.

Why not file a Lemon Case? Check your State's requirements. As an example, Florida is three trips to the Dealer for the same problem or thirty days disabled (not repaired).

After filing, the Manufacturer has ten days to respond and to set up a fourth repair try which also must be completed within ten days. Florida's Lemon Law protection is simple and easy to file -- no lawyers needed.. Perhaps your State is similar.

My 2025 Jeep GCSR became disabled from excessive electrical draw two days after purchasing. Dealer Service could not fix even with regional tech assistance. After Lemon repurchase am undecided if, or not, to try another Jeep GCSR. Am now concerned the problems might be found in the next one.

Anyone have better luck with a Lemon replacement?

Same issue next day after I bought it, THEN it happened again.. Dealership Cranbrook Dodge accepted no responsibility even after Jeep Wave Customer Care Canada put all the responsibility on Cranbrook Dodge. Cranbrook Dodge also refused to talk with the Better Business Bureau

Purchased a new 2024 Overland August '24.
Didn't use it for 3 days after purchase and the battery was dead. After boost made appt at Dealership to run a diagnostic check for 4 hours. Tech mentioned he turned off a system that was receiving signals from emergency vehicles, ya ok whatever.

Noticed this thread at that time while searching the net.

A week later it was dead again. Made appointment at the same Dealership and after more tests they replaced both batteries saying that they were not properly charging. No issues since and have driven it pretty regularly including a 5 month trip to Palm Desert for the winter where it got regular use usually every 2nd day.

Turned off the Approach Feature and keep the fob in a Farady Bag as the remote is in the back entrance which is about 20' from the Jeep and noticed originally that if the back door was opened a couple times the lights would turn on which was probably the useless Approach Feature activating. Also cancelled the Jeep App, useless to me.

Not impressed as had 0 problems with a demo 2006 and 2016 and new 2021.

Just wanted to add my situation that seems to have been resolved. 🤞

Purchased my JGCS the end of March '25 and had a dead battery 4 days later. It's been in and out of the dealership since then. It is the clicking noise in the rear passenger wheel area of course it was news to them (two dealerships). Now I'm seeing it has been a problem for over a year. I've had the suspension module replaced, both batteries replaced, liftgate module replaced and they still couldn't figure it out until I read about the proximity module (something I wanted since it was on my old car which I never had problems with 12 years). Because the proximity module was replaced, the car now would not start. Tried doing the new update but now the RFHM needs to be replaced in order to do the new update. Will take 20-30 days for it to be built and sent to dealer. I guess my GC will be the test subject for this new reconfigured RFHM. But on the flip side, at least they are finally addressing this known issue. I also did the exact thing as n1ap. My secondary fob was in close proximity and I also bought a faraday cage to keep that fob from connecting. But I didn't buy this specific car to not use that feature.

Hello I'm back.. Seems all my responses disappeared. from my original post.

.. MAJOR UPDATES

Original post:
Same issue next day after I bought it, THEN it happened again.. Dealership Cranbrook Dodge accepted no responsibility even after Jeep Wave Customer Care Canada put all the responsibility on Cranbrook Dodge. Cranbrook Dodge also refused to talk with the Better Business Bureau"

UPDATES
We purchased a second Grand Cherokee this time, a Laredo.( the issue couldn't happen again.
Two weeks ago the SECOND NEW Grand Cherokee DIED after 3 mths in use, Cranbrook Dodge came and took it away . After 2 weeks of testing and updating etc and saying they were going to fix us up. A tech guy called to say the Chrysler engineers couldn't find what was causing the issue. So they blamed it on the ENVIRONMENT . This diagnoses was made from half way across the country.
Many emails etc.
The dealer's GM hasn't answered our emails... Missing in action.
I imagine embarrassed hanging this major issue on the
Environment. I found out through posting on local web sites people had this issue before and
Stellantis said where they live ELECTRICAL PULSES killed their batteries.

Lastest .. We filed another claim for the second vehicle with Stellantis customer help desk...FCA.
10 days later after me calling them 2 times a barely understandable male called repeating what the service tech said, answered None of the questions . I did get out of him " NO COMPENSATION TILL THEY FIND WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE" , they acknowledge it is a long standing known issue.

Jeep Wave Customer Care Canada been dodging my calls and email for 2 weeks now.

So sorry to hear!! My 2024 GC Summit had a dead batt on 3rd day. Jumped and drove to Dealer. Kept it for 3 days . Replaced the Body Control Module and small battery. Been good for 6 months as a daily driver......

Replace that module! I have the phone App and Proximity recognition ON! It lights up when Im within 5-10 ft w keys in my pocket. All works perfectly.

Best,
Smokin Summit

The dealer is caught between rock and hard place. They didn't design it nor build it, they get the unenviable job of trying to fix what isn't broken/not exhibiting symptom when they have it in the shop, and trying to balance all that with a po'd customer.

The dealer likely will not replace too much in this sort of electronic on their own accord unless they find a tangible smoking gun, or someone from corporate gives them the green light. If either of those two were true it all but certainly would be done.
