Well I put a Banks monster cat back exhaust on my 4cyl. TJ and I hate it. I was trying to get something that sounded a little throatier and a little louder. This is way to loud and actually gives me a headache after 15 minutes of driving. So here's the question, can I just replace the muffler with something more quiet? Any suggestions? I can't put the stock exhaust back on because I had to cut it off(it was a bit rusty).

My banks muffler was only loud at 2500-3000 RPMS then it had a different loud tone, kinda sports carish, not like a jeep should sound. I replaced it with a generic flowmaster knock off (IMCO high output) just the other day for $60, 30 for the muffler, 30 labor. It has a nice throaty sound but i wish it was louder. Maybe that is what your looking for? I am probably going to get a highflow cat to make it louder. Still can't believe i paid almost 300 for the banks kit only to have it on for a year and not like it...

My 4.0L TJ came with a Monster Exhaust when I bought it used last summer and I love it. Mine isnt too loud but has a lovely throaty sound at around 1500-1700 rpm, espcially in 1st and 2nd gear. Sorry you arent happy with yours.

I put mine on about a month ago and the jury is still out. I love it when it first starts up but it has a loud drone around 2500 rpm that I am not a huge fan of. I had to cut my old exhaust off too so putting it back on is not an option. Then again I only paid $50 for the exhaust so I shouldn't complain.

get a dynomax superturbo muffler if it will fit. its 2inches inlet 2 1/2 outlet so those are right, its supposed to sound a little louder then stock but not too much i have heard, and there cheap. just go to your local napa.

Original post, give me a break, I have one with a 6 cyl, and it is not loud at all. If you want a quiet muffler, you had no reason to buy a banks to begin with. Maybe this post should be relocated to the just girls forum. No offense, but give me a break.

Oh I see, the 4 cyl and 6 cyl are the same and the exhaust are the same so what I'm hearing is the same as what you're hearing. You give me a break. When you get a 4 cyl with the same exhaust then I'll take some value in your opinion.

The 4 runs a higher rpm to keep it going. The higher the rpm, the louder my exhaust gets. You probably get a deeper sound with your 6. Probably doesn't sound like as much of a ricer than my 4. That's all I'm saying.

I had the same issue. went from gibson to banks to borla and I wish I still had the original TFX by pasesetter. It was the best! I'm getting it for my Sahara!

I used to have a 2.5L XJ. After multiple setups i finally settled and realized that the stock exhaust is the best exhaust on the 4 banger

Where does the tail pipe end on your Jeep? If it is cut off square under the body the Banks, or any muffler, will be louder. I have a banks on my TJ and I had to cut the exhaust short near the gas tank skid, it is much, much louder now.

Before spending a bunch of money try being sure that the exhaust exits out the rear of the Jeep and try a turndown tip to direct the sound down towards the ground. it will make a difference
