My 06 Lj had a problem the other day that left me stranded. After filling up my tank I got on the highway and my jeep died while driving. Pulled over to the shoulder and jeep would not crank over. Had the jeep towed home. After looking it over I found the ASD fuse had blown. Replaced the fuse and went to crank it over and got a click noise like it wanted to crank and died tried to tun it over again and not even a click. ASD fuse was blown again. My guess s there is a short somewhere on this circuit. Any specific areas that I should check first. The fuse does not blow when I put it in it blows on crank.

manual or automatic?

How is your electrical troubleshooting skills - can you read a wiring Dia, use a DVOM or test light.
Have yu checked for codes? even if CEL is off.

Is there any added or modified electrical, ie remote starter, audio, lighting - other issues.
I always check add ons first.
Pretty good with electrical. Auto trans. Plugged in my obd2 code reader no codes

follow Dr's link - BUT if I understand only when moved to start correct? yes or no?

what is answer to question "Is there any added or modified electrical, ie remote starter, audio, lighting - other issues." CODES !!!

Lets TRY removing starter relay and trying to start -this will divide system for less area to look at... - did fuse blow with relay out?
no additional mods fuse blows in crank mode
Kind of leads me to believe it might be with fuel delivery

When you first take the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position, the PCM energises the ASD and fuel pump relays for a couple seconds then shuts them off because it isn't seeing a crank and cam position sensor input (engine isn't spinning). If the fuse isn't blowing until you take the ignition switch to START, the problem is not due to fuel delivery. You need to remove the starter relay and attempt to start the vehicle to see if the fuse still blows as was suggested.

Ok so now that I am not chasing snow on my weekends and ski season is about over I finally got a chance to started chasing wires on my ASD fuse issue. I found the problem and wanted to post the solution in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation. So it tuns out it was a short to ground. It was not on the 02 sensor circuit. Turns out it was on the ignition side. There is a wire that connects to the coil capacitor that is mounted to the passenger side engine block. The wire had been rubbing against the block and had warn through shorting the coil capacitor. Here is the pic of the problem wire.

Had no other issue until early this week when it died while wife was driving.:surprise: This time though it was a hard short. I successively installed 20A, 25A, and even 30A fuses and it popped them immediately! So got it towed to same dealer (bad as I hated that!) and then came home to surf Jeep Forum. Found this post and printed the solution.
Went to dealer this morning and fixed it in his parking lot which gave me great satisfaction!! Same exact problem. I also noticed that the wiring harness that this wire comes out of was riding hard on the sheet metal standoff bracket that supports the oil dipstick tube. So with a couple tie wraps pulled it up a little so it wouldn't ride hard on that relatively sharp sheet metal bracket.

I am glad I was able to help. This forum has always been my go to resource when I need help. So many talented individuals here.

Since the dealership misdiagnosed the problem I think they should compensate you. I'm sure they won't and that's why they get such a bad rep.

kind of by luck!
I figured for sure it was going to be on the o2 sensors. Even after disconnecting them I still kept blowing fuses.

My garage already has 2 other jeep projects so I was working outside and it was getting dark and I was getting frustrated. I was under the hood and had my son try and start the jeep to see if the fuse would blow after disconnecting the o2 circuits. when he tuned the key I saw a spark!. Pulled the wire away from the block put in a new fuse and it started right up. I then took a look at the wiring diagram and confirmed that it was on the same circuit. I then cleaned it and taped it up and its been good ever since. Amazing how 1 small wire can completely disable the jeep.
