The clockspring is the absolute most common failure for that code. We replace clocksprings across the MOPAR board ALL the time. I dont know why Chrysler never figured out how to make a clockspring, lol. The clockspring has multiple wires bound in what looks like a flat circuit board connection band. You can have just a single connection break (open circuit) and not have any affect on the others. And it can be an intermittent seperation which would cause you exact issue. We have a load tester for clocksprings at the dealer that tells us 100% if its the clockspring or airbag but in your case not having access to OE diag equipment I would start with replacement of the clock spring as they are easier and cheaper than the airbag itself.

 

Replaced the clock spring with the Dorman version from Advance Auto... thought I was golden but now the Air Bag light popped on again... out $120. What is the second most common failure out there for this code?

 

I recently had a similar problem but mine ended up being a much more expensive problem as I had to have my airbag control module replaced for the tune of about $1000. I hope yours is not that.

 

Update... it's been almost two months now and the air bag light has NOT come on again since its single appearance in November. The new clockspring seems to have fixed the problem.
