545RFE Neutral Safety Switch

Hey tranny gurus, need a bit of help here.

I have a customers 2002 WJ 4.7 with a 545rfe and it sometimes does nothing when turning the key. Customer thinks maybe a bad neutral safety switch but I dont think the 545RFEs use a typical NSS? I know the 42REs did but I thought it was build into the valve body or something different on the 545RFEs? Can anyone confirm? Im thinking the issue is probably a bad ignition switch but wanted to confirm the NSS...Thanks!

The 4.7, 545RFE does not have a neutral safety switch, it uses a transmission range sensor which is located on top of the valve body.

What about the 45RFE (not 545RFE)? Mine is a '99 4.7

Is there a neutral safety switch on the 1999 45RFE? Earlier post referenced 545RFE. I have been unable to locate NSS, but can start engine by jumping contacts of starter relay.

yeah thats what I was trying to remember - transmission range sensor......

Yep. No NSS. I had to replace the TRS in my 545rfe. I was having electrical issues and minor tranny issues. They all got fixed when I replaced the TRS.

Have a 2004 WJ. Reverse lights both went out a couple a months ago. Now I'm throwing a P0750 code for shift solenoid A malfunction. All signs are pointing to TRS. You guys agree?

They are the same tranny physically just with different programming.
