265 tires on stock 7.5" rims

I'm in complete despair now as I can't find any decent AT tire that would fit my rims... (stock 17x7.5)

All I can get is BFG TA KO2 in size 265/70/R17. Keeping in mind the stock tires are 235 in width, there is a 30mm width increase, so - would 265 tire fit on 7.5" rims? What are the downsides of fitting too wide of a tire on the narrow rim?

I will also mention that I'm not in USA, I'm in Europe and initially I wanted to get Goodyear Duratracs, but after inquiring a number of tire sellers all over Europe I found out nobody has them in stock and for sure they won't have them until the next year. My other option was the new BFG TA KO2, but again the only size everyone has is 265/70/R17, so I can get that or nothing, how lame is that...

BFG T/A KO2

Look at the spec on their website. A 265/70R17 will fit fine on a 7.5" wide rim. They allow that tire to be mounted on a 7" - 8.5" wide rim.

265/70/17 will indeed fit on factory 17" wheels.. Looks great too

Thanks for the info and the pic - really looks not bad, I thought they would look weird with the rim being "sucked in". I guess I'll go with that size then, a bit too wide for my needs, but oh well..

2-2.5 inches wider is perfect for off-roading tires

Here is a 265/70r17 on 7.5" wide JK take offs. actually with a thinner wheel you get a better seating of the bead on the tire and helps a lot when/if you air down your tires when offroad.

Captain, I just bought those wheels and those are the tires I've been looking at. I see you have a 4" lift. I've been tossing between 3" Kolak/OME and a 4" Zone. You think there would be much problem doing it with a 3" lift?

even better example since the 16" wheels are 1/2 inch thinner

Ok, I've just ordered KO2s in size 265/70/R17.

I hope I'm gonna fit them in my WJ with UpCountry + 2" BB? (3" in total). (A minor wheel well liner trimming is not a problem)

2.5 BB would be a litter better but you will need to trim either way. Change out your isolators if you haven't yet

Why do I have to change the isolators? I'm putting polyurethane bb coil spacers if that matters..

You still use the Spring isolators with a bb.. If you don't it will affect ride quality.. After time your isolators wear and you will have a noticeable loading ride height. If you haven't changed them yet they could probably use changing and what better time then when pulling the springs out for a BB

Yeah I know you still use the isolators with bb. I'll take a look at their condition and if squashed, I'll change them.

Even squashed ones can look fine. They are so cheap that you'd be saving yourself a fix later...

Anyone running 265/70R17 on stock rims using/not using wheel spacers? If no spacers, do you rub to rear shock?

I just measured the gap between the rear shock and my 235/65R17 tire - the gap is only 20mm. My new tires will be 265, so that's 30mm wider overall and 15mm wider to both sides. That means the gap between shock and the tire will be only 5mm or less (current 20mm – 15mm = 5mm). That looks a bit worrying to me...

Did you mean you noticed the rubbed areas when you took off the wheels to install the spacers? How bad was the "rubbing damage" to the shock and the inner sidewall of the tire?
(I'm a bit concerned about the inner tire sidewall rubbing - if it would smooth out the sidewall, the rotated tires would look pretty bad. Flipped outside...)

I ran 265 on stock wheels with out spacers. Only rubbed minimally off road I think when articulating

Thanks for the help/info guys. Installed the 2" coil spacers and 31.6" KO2s (265/70R17) and my CRD gained 4" addtional lift from UpCountry with stock tires. A quick pic:

I've added 2" shock extenders to save my UpCountry shocks, but maybe I'll upgrade to Rough Country shocks in the future. Also extended the bump stops and will add 1.5" spacer to the rear A-arm.

Everything is great except I rub slightly at passenger side front lower arm and to the exhaust pipe at the rear. Also some micro rubbing to rear shocks when springs are compressed.

I'm thinking of installing wheel spacers to cure this problem - I would like to go as minimum as possible - would 1" wheel spacers be enough?

1 inch wheel spacers won't work, as your lugs will stick out past the spacer and not let the rim sit properly. You'll need at least 1.25, but you'll also have to trim the front fender/bumper to any type of spacer work. With that size tire.

Also if you're only rubbing on one lower control arm up front, it's time for an adjustable track bar or to have it properly adjusted if you have one already.

I don't think there would be a problem with fitting 1 inch spacers - I looked at the rims backside and they have 0.4" deep cavities inbetween the holes, aka where the spacer lugs protrude. Also I could trim off the wheel studs if needed, so they don't protrude much above the nuts. Or, I could just go with 1.25" spacers of course :) Bumper trimming is not a problem.

Isn't the stock track bar adjustable, or via the tie rod end adjusting? I also need to get the wheel alignment done (steering wheel isn't perfectly center after the tie rod end change), but I doubt that would be enough to fix the rubbing issue.

The stock track bar is not adjustable. This is what centers the axle under the vehicle. When you raise it the track bar travels in an arc causing the axle to shift to the left.

The drag link between the steering gear box and knuckle is adjustable and can be adjusted to return your steering wheel back to center. This has to be adjusted whenever you change the ride height or if you re-center the axle with an adjustable track bar.
