Hi everyone,

I took ownership of my new 2011 Wrangler Sahara last week. I was in the dealership parking lot and couldn't get my Iphone to Pair. Finally the salesman discovered that Uconnect isn't installed. I should have tried to pair before I signed for it, but thats a different issue. I ASSUMED that the Nav touchscreen 430N Radio (RHB) would come with bluetooth installed, my mistake. I'm now looking into adding "uconnect". I'm getting conflicting stories and the dealer is doing their part, but they're confused as well. I want to know if I can simply add a microphone to the back of the unit and have bluetooth/uconnect? OR if I need the 250.00 "module" kit that includes the microphone. I can find plenty of sites that describe how to "DIY", but nothing specific to the RHB radio or what would be needed.

CAN ANY SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS FOR ME? I have been searching for a week, and can't find the same answer twice.

THANKS..

When you press U connect what does it prompt you? Mine is a 07 with the navi unit and all i had to do is install the mic, took me 15min.
Thats one side that I hear. When i press the phone or the voice button, i get Uconnect phone not connected

I see on one of jeeps web sites that the uconnect is included with GPS navigation radios, which I have. ...UGGGHHH... THANKS. I sent an email to jeep as well..for whatever that is worth..

In my manual packet my Jeep came with a card stating the type of unit that it came with. I based my purchase on that. If you don't already know where to purchase the mic from here is where i got it from. It comes with a pdf file of some instructions but it will probably be easier to google the instructions i cant remember where i got them from but i just needed to know where to pull and pry from the right locations.

Thanks for the replies, I guess now it's back to the dealership to see if the 2011 module can even be ordered. I really screwed the pooch on this one... Hopefully the vehicle will be fun to drive and overshadow this disaster.

Did the same thing with a 2011 Liberty. When radio turns on it actually says "JEEP, Uconnect" but it is not installed. Parts Mgr at my dealer is looking into the part with Jeep and I will post results when available. He said it is very possible it is not available yet. The Mopar website has the module for the RER radio but not the RHB. RHB is Garmin navigation. RER is 2010 and previous. Hope this helps.

We got the Uconnect in our '11 Sahara... so far it's been useless. It will pair with our Verison Droid X phones, but that's about it. When you receive a call it connects momentarily and then drops the call. Dialing out hasn't worked yet either since it loses the pairing off and on... it's a compatability issue that will get resolved eventually, but right now pretty disappointing.

I honestly wouldn't bother going through the trouble of getting the uconnect if I were in your shoes knowing what I know now... I guess eventually it'll work with updates to either the phone or the head unit. The SYNC system in my F150 works soooo much better...

I have started having lots of problems with my UConnect and a Droid as well. It worked well at first, but randomly works now. I have a thread started on those problems as well. The module/radio has started having lots of problems reading music from the USB drive in the center console so mine isn't as much a compatability issue as a general failure of the UConnect functionality. Dealership is trying to figure it out. It has been harder to figure out since it works every now and then.

To the poster who had the Ford Sync prior, I agree, that was a very slick system.

I just went through the same thing on my 2010 i purchased 2 weeks ago. I was told it had it, but in fact when i took delivery it did not. The stealership gave me the run around, so i said F**K it. It was one of the last 2010's so i compromised. I decided to do it my self. It is rather easy to do if you are patient.

I was able to install uconnect myself for less than the sticker option. I purchase my uconnect kit from a different dealer. You can get it from any dodge, chrysler, or jeep dealer.

For the 2010
p/n 82211878 which is the uconnect with ipod integration unit lists for 257.00
p/n 82212000 is the ipod connection cable which lists for 37.50.

My dad is a retiree so i get a 25% discount on mopar parts. so my cost was 220.88 for both.

I beleive the unit for 2011 is 82212159 and lists for $356.00

If you search the internet you can find cheaper prices, and save some money on sales tax and shipping.

I installed it and it was easy. They only thing i deviated from the instructions was that i mounted the microphone under the latch for the hard top, which is just a little right of center from the rear view mirror.

I also routed the ipod haness through the center console and the cable comes into the storage under the center armrest. At the same time I installed and extra 12v outlet (which i aquired from nissan since i really like the plug style with the snap cover).

Removing the center consol is easy if you take your time. the hardest part is to get the parking brake in the assembly position, which is all the way up to the very last click. it is the only way you can get the center console out.

I am slowly working on getting the procedure put together in a pdf file to share.

In the end it took about 3 hours and cost 220 for uconnect parts, 8 bucks for the nissan outlet, wire, heat shrink.

The only kicker is that you must have the installed unit activated at the stealership. I called the local jeep dealers, and they were pricks. Would charge a full hour labor at $110 min and had to wait for a week to get "scheduled in". I called and called around, and finally found a dodge dealer that did it for 63 bucks, and washed the car with it. Its the best i could do. I now others were able get this done for free, or for less. but i could not get so lucky. I live in Tucson and the dealers here totally suck compared to what i was used to in Detroit.

The dealer i purchased from would not help me since i purchased at employee discount with current incentives. they gave me the run around but i showed them the paperwork which they had to honor, and from then on they were dicks. I don't know why, they don't loose money, its chrysler that takes care of the discount.

UConnect works great in my 2011 Rubicon. Have it matched up to my Samsung Fascinate, my Blackberry, and my son's Droid with no problems at all. Been totally happy with it and haven't had any problems.
I just installed the Mopar Uconnect kit in my 2000 GC connecting to an RB1 nav unit and the iPod connection kit. Uconnect seemed to be working fine and confirmed pairing to my Samsung Fascinate but when I tried to actually make a call it won't talk to the phone. Uconnect says "phone not available" and the phone says "Paired but not connected".

Any help is appreciated as I need to either rip it all back out or button it all up, and the key question seems to be whether there is any chance of getting Uconnect to talk to the Fascinate. I'm interested in any steps you might have used to get Uconnect talking to the Fascinate.

I made the same mistake the previous years top of the line radios came with bluetooth, all you had to do is plug in the mic and some minor programming.

2011 the bluetooth only comes when you get the technology package. two months ago the module was not available but i do know that on the 2011 the mic plugs in to the left panel access at the left end of the dash where you open the drivers door. the newer 2011's have a mic nuilt in to the corner plastic piece to the left of the drivers sun visor.

the module has to be available as the new wranglers with tech package have working bluetooth's.

there are a lot of unhappy people since the merger of mopar and garmin the old mygigs were a great piece of equipment this new junk is not even user freindly.

UConnect installed but not connected

So I finally completed and buttoned up the installation of the UConnect kit in my GC. Everything looks good and integrates with the radio and the ipod and pairs with the Samsung Fascinate with the exception that it doesn't actually connect to the phone even though it both the phone and uconnect indicated successful pairing.

So I now have a brand new somewhat pricey but useless Uconnect system installed, as well as a better knowledge of GC interior trim panels and wiring.

Aaargh!

Update.. Uconnect installed

I had the module installed last week and its working fine with my Iphone. My address book is there and after I "trained" my voice, it seems that my only issue is learning the commands. I have received phone calls and even called my father in law by name, and he doesn't have an easy last name to pronounce.

SO FAR SOO GOOOD
