The dash leather on my 2011 overland is wrinkling and pulling loose. Anybody else having this problem. Obviously caused by sitting out on hot days here in CA

There are countless threads on this issues. It is a common problem, but you're pretty much out of luck getting FCA to cover it on a 2011.

I had the same issue on my 2011 overland. I specifically stayed away from the overland trim and went with a limited to avoid the leather dash.

Big problem, very expensive to fix. FCA needs to step up but they haven't.

LeatherDashProblem

I have the exact same thing happening to the black leather wrapped dash on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Took it into my local dealer where they took photos of it to document the issue and then followed up with me a week later to say they wont fix it because the vehicle is past the warranty coverage period of 36 months. The vehicle is fairly low use with only 45k miles on it and has always been garage kept. I can't believe how poor the manufacturing quality is on it.

I then called Jeep customer service to see if they could help as this is clearly a manufacturing defect. The response I got is that I did not meet two of the five criteria they had for helping in situations like this. When I asked what the was that criteria I didn't meet, I got back the following response:

1. You only have one jeep vehicle (doesn't matter that I paid well over 40k for it)
2. It's considered "well" used since it went into service in 2011 (doesn't matter that it only has 45k miles on it and that its always been garage parked).

At this point, Jeep has lost my entire family and myself as a customer for the rest of our live. Hard to believe how poor the quality of their "luxury" line is and that they won't back their product when its such an obvious manufacturing defect. Also, can't help but be insulted that they won't own their hideous defect because I've only bought one 40+ thousand dollar car from them. Stick to Wranglers as Jeep has no business playing in the luxury market.

Wow that looks terrible. I've only owned my Overland for 3 days but boy have I seen quite a lot of garbage to look forward to. I actually work for an automotive manufacturing company that produces leather interior for luxury vehicles (not US made cars). The bonding process for the substrate to the leather is quite a complicated process but when we see issues with delamination we can generally fix them with a heat gun and a plastic finishing tool. The glue that holds the leather to the substrate is heat activated and is not the least bit tacky to the touch unless heat is applied to it. With that said, I have NEVER seen anything like this or even close to this where I work. Normally its just a small wrinkle after the bonding process.

Just traded my Jeep in for a Honda. I couldn't bear to look at the bubbled up dashboard one more day knowing FAC basically told me to piss off when I asked them for assistance. Plus one of the edges of the fake wood trim was stating to come up in addition to the craptastic upholstery. Jeep has no business whatsoever trying to produce luxury vehicles. They failed big time with their Overlands and likely will never get it right.

My family will never, ever, ever buy another Jeep, Chrysler or Dodge or RAM again in my life.

I hate to see this thread still kicking. It's pretty embarrassing that Jeep won't step up to the plate when they know something was wrong with their adhesive. I had a 2011 overland that had the dash replaced at 50k miles. By 65k, the replacement had already started to de-laminate.

I ended up trading it for a limited. Between the dash and the crap rear shocks, I couldn't handle the overland package any longer. Hopefully the 14+ over lands are much better than the 11-13s were.

Kitra,
Fca fixed my dash under the extended warranty even though according to the warranty info it wasn't covered. Great service. You seem to be complaining about something that hasn't happened to you. Also complaining about a warranty that is not any good on the imagined problem. It's just a car!
There are plenty of things to worry about. Take it easy enjoy your jeep.
Take a weekend off, relax, have fun!
All the best
Ray

Leather dash shrinking.

I agree with you Ray, I shouldn't complain on a problem I haven't had yet. I bought this vehicle for my Wife, hoping for it to be a reliable vehicle. But am concerned it might not be. We had the TIPM issue but after being stranding 8 -10 times, got FCA to replace it versus the relay. That was very excellent of them. Still need to do round two of the headliner wiring. And sunroof rattles like crazy. The water pump seems like it has some play in the bearing. Looked last night and we have less than 42K miles on it. Just feels odd when comparing it against my other vehicle -a 2002 SAAB with 132K town miles only having 2 failures outside of maintenance. The radiator and a turbocharger. Still looks like a nearly new car. Leather interior is perfect. The leather in the Jeep looks more worn that SAAB's. But I do know bad cars. Worst I ever owned was an AUDI that we called an OWEEE because it was always in the shop.

Kitra,
I agree cars can be a PITA. But, for the most part, I've been very lucky. Also my worst car was an Audi 100. Finally sold it for a song to the mechanic who worked on it.
My 2011 JGC had the engine head problem, repaired under warranty and if I remember correctly, leaking water pump, also repaired under warranty plus the dash leather. It now has approximately 82K miles and is soldiering on with my son in San Diego. My 2015 JGC has 6K, so far no problems. My 1999 JGC lives in Sunriver Oregon and just clicked over 100K ( it only gets about 3k per year. So you see I've had some experience with JGC's. I've also had 2 Chevrolet suburb and a Ford Expedition in addition to ford and Chevrolet trucks, T-bird, Mercedes 250, E350 and 2 Audi's (yea, I fell for it twice).
I hope you can get the items bothering you repaired and you can start enjoying, but most importantly, trusting your vehicle.
I've found the best thing to do if your not happy with something, get rid of it and trade for something else. Don't waste a lot of time or energy worrying about it.

2011 Overland dash coming loose and wrinkling up

This is my third Jeep Grand Cherokee. I could not wait to get into the 2011 Overland, the most highly rated SUV in history. It is a beautiful truck, but has been riddled by maintenance issues and recalls. Luckily I purchased the Chrysler extended warranty that is good until 3/2018. I would not own one of these without the full warranty!

The bad news is that the extended Chrysler warranty will not cover this problem because they do not cover so called "cosmetic" problems. That is even though the dealership and service manager tell me this is a very common problem that is caused by a manufacturing defect.

Upon searching the web I found that it is a known defect caused by the supplier missing a vacuum process on the leather that activates the glue. It states that the 2011 vehicles were built before the supplier corrected their process on the leather to ensure it was not missed. I don't believe it was just isolated to 2011 models either! I have read dozens of complaints on 2012-2014 models also.

The dealership directed me to Jeep Customer Care, where I got the same response as many of you, "sorry for your bad luck". I escalated to management who only shared that if it became a big enough problem that they would get back in contact with me to let me know what they were willing to do about it. Case # 30655799

Any search on the web will show it is a huge and known manufacturing defect that they are dodging!

Slight bubbling on the dash started a couple of years ago, nothing serious, until this Summer (2016) when the whole edge of the dash next to the windshield turned loose, the dash wrinkled up and is embarrassing to have clients see the disrepair of my vehicle. It is going to depreciate the sale of my vehicle by at least $3,000 when I get rid of it...which will definitely be before the end of the warranty! I only wish I could say I wanted to buy another $50+ Jeep product when the factory will not stand behind such an obvious manufacturing defect. To maintain customer loyalty Jeep truly needs to stand behind their products and do the right thing when problems like this arise.

This Jeep has been well cared for, mostly garaged, never off road, definitely not a wear and tear issue! Chrysler needs to wake up and do what is right and own up to their responsibility.

If JeepCares really cares, I would appreciate their support in making this issue right.

I've had several issues with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I thought by buying a nicer package, Overland 4x4 with the hemi, I wouldn't have so many issues come up. Wow was I wrong. The car is great when it has no issues but I warn everyone not to buy one unless it's basic and has less moving parts to worry about.

One of my issues is the dashboard, obviously this is not as big of a concern and that's also why I haven't gone through with spending the $2k to fix it. I have been told though that it can cause the passenger airbag to defectively deploy which is a safety concern. The dash should not have had any issues after being a year old, which is when the problem first began. I had a warranty at the time but was told cosmetic issues were not covered. Any help from help would be greatly appreciated, as I continue to repair other more pressing issues like the suspension :/ if not I think it's about time to trade out of the jeep brand for me

So this is what a $60K Jeep dash is supposed to look like???
I keep reading that it is a known manufacturing defect (that Jeep still refuses to address), that was caused by a supplier missing a vacuum process on the leather that activates the glue?? But I have yet to get a copy of the document that addresses this issue from either FCA or the dealer (who claims that Supplier 8D Report from the Issue Tracking system does not exist), that others on this forum indicates that it does, and supposedly shows a clear root cause.
If anyone can assist me with finding this document, it would be greatly appreciated, as I am still trying to build a case on this now on-going 3 year issue that FCA will not address.
Thx,
UncleRoy

Thanks for reminding me UncleRoy...I took it back in and they got pics to send to Jeep. Got a call the next day from DC at jeepcares and he offered me the $200 replacement deal. Scheduled appointment, gave us a loaner and a few days later we had a brand new dash installed. Looks great now. Completely satisfied. I wish everyone had the same experience I did.
