Good Morning Forum,

Hoping someone can help with this issue. My son bought a 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo and it was driving fine after we fix the cooling issue, bad radiator, then out of the blue it would shift really hard into reverse and lung forward shifting into drive and driving it around the block it wont shift out of first. Don't want to start throwing money at first. I read some forums that say to replace the shift lever, we did that. It is due for a transmission fluid change. I have this code U0103, Lost communication with gear shift control module A. Figure Like I mentioned it was driving really good, no issues and then out of the blue this popped up. The Laredo is a 2005, with the 3.7L and it has a NAG1 transmission (flat bottom pan) Thinking maybe the solenoid pack? Any help would appreciated. As always keep up the good work! I have include a pic of the code

The NAG 1 shifters have an ESM or Electronic shift Module in them. Sometimes you can get away with removing and cleaning the contacts and connections and sometimes you need to buy a whole new shifter with the ESM. They use to make a replacement module but I don't think you'll find one anymore.

here's a couple threads on the issue

any other codes? ANY

How about battery and charging system - oth OK?

Basically communication issue, shift module not on bus.

The above suggestion to CLEAN esp the electric contacts, coffee spills are brutal esp with sugar.
Pposting other codes then cleaning SLA seams a first step
