Yes there are OEM sidesteps for an intermediate, but good luck finding them. On the average they are 50 years old and are in the same condition as a 50 Year old Jeep. Those that bolt to the floor bottom might work if the floor might work if the floor is in original shape. If not you'd be sitting on your backside and have a hole in the floor after the first use.

Folks a 72-75 intermediate Jeep CJ is a different critter than the later year 76+ CJs. The tub is more akin to an early CJ as is the frame which is only longer to handle the 232, 258, and 304. It is a ladder back and doesn't taper. See the picture of mine above. Only the front third is boxed, but the channel is heavier than the later CJs. None of the suggestions above for modern CJs will work without modifications.

Y'all did pick up a detail my tired old eyes missed. OP your exhaust headers aren't going to allow any steps custom or manufactured. Good luck in your quest. Tell us about your solution.

Your exhaust looks similar to mine and it is not in the way if you want to do steps the way I did. I like these as they are very sturdy/strong, easily removable (hitch pin)and have already saved me some damage when some idiot turned into my lane without looking. His bumper hit the step. Put a ding in it and he drove away. Yes, they stick out further than ideal, but they are functional in what I needed so the wife can get in without issues. They also stop the morons in parking lots that feel they have to slam their door open. These are a perfect height to stop that door.

Anyway, if memory serves these are hitch steps like you would use in the back hitch and the mounts are a John Deere type tractor mount 2" receiver. I can get you more specifics if interested.

More pictures of the hitch mounts would help !!

Ok,

Hitch Step : Link to Amazon where I got them

Hitch Tightener: These snug up the steps and also put pressure on the locking hitch pin so it is very difficult for a thief to remove the steps.

Receiver for hitch step These bolted right up to existing holes in frame using Grade 8 bolts. There are hundreds of ways you could do this for the step, but these are well built and fit.

Gator mounted to frame. Need to do a little touch up to hide the gator green.

I think he's showing it can go under his muffler.

Yes, understood, (and somewhat tongue-in-cheek) as his muffler is tucked up under the tub and even with the frame, as opposed to the OP, whose hangs down below the frame, and tub, and likely the trans as well..

Isn't that what they make floor jacks for? :D
A little re-alignment might be in order.

His mufflers do look big around so maybe mine wouldn't work. My first pic above was with the Thrush Cherry Bomb muffler and I took them off within the first week as you could hear me coming from the next county. The ones on there now are nice and quiet with a bit of a v8 drone going down the road.

Still like my suggestion. Tucks up and doesn’t look like s$&@@“! And looks like it would work, I might look at these myself when I’m old.

YES.....the Gators work :)

Now if I could ever get mine on the Jeep......

Appreciate everyone's insight on this. @254Triple that hitch mount side rail step is a nice set up. I think my round mufflers are a bit too large to get underneath and still have good ground clearance. The Hide a Step may be a good option if I can find a suitable mounting location on that '74. Otherwise, may just have to keep lifting myself up using the roll cage! :sneaky:
