Hey all,

So recently i've been having issues with my Jeep and it seems as if the tranmission is falling into 'limp' mode on and off. I have taken it several places, but the problem only occurs with me-go figure. Anyways looking on some other forums, i found that the tcm connection may be at fault. I was looking at wjjeeps.com I believe that it lists the tcm located on the pass side engine bay. When I looked for it, I wasnt able to find it.

Anyone know where it is/what it looks like/if it is under something?

Thanks for any help:cheers2:

are you talking about how sometimes it feels like your transmission just gets stuck in like 3rd gear? this happens to me too and wont go away until i turn the jeep off/on and even then itll happen again. i have made a post on here a while back and people were saying it might be the governor pressure sensor. its a very very very irritating problem but i cant seem to get good help on the topic

Yes, it drops the gear on the freeway and then picks it right back up. Is that the same issue your also having? One thing I also noticed is that it times will 'buck' when coming to stop, as if it wasnt shifting down to 1st and staying in 2nd. When it bucks, it also throws overdrive back on, as I tried turning it off when this problem arose.

Btw, do you have the link to your previous thread?

mine is not the same, once mine goes into limp mode it stays in the same gear until i shut the car off. even if i go manual to 1st/2nd. when i start out i have to floor it to go anywhere because i start in a high gear, and i could be doing 40mph and at 3 thousand rpms steady but it still wont shift to a higher gear. its a strange problem. ill look for my link

The 4.0 engine comes with a 42RE transmission, and it does not have a TCM like the 545FE does. That's why you can't find it.

Thank you all for the info.

I have taken the Jeep to 3 different dealers/repair places and nobody can figure it out. I filmed a video of it acting up on the freeway (gauge cluster) and you can clearly see that the rpms are steady while the speedo jumps from 45-65 back and forth while it appears to "drop" the gear. Then it picks back up and resumes normal driving. If I turn OD off, it automatically turns it back on once it does this.

Everyone I take it in, they cannot get it to replicate the problem which doesnt help at all.

narnwv, your saying a TPS? I recently had the Crankshaft Pos. Sensor replaced, but not the TPS. Does that sound like a common sympton of a failing TPS?

so replaced the TPS, and test drove it. Ran fine on freeway and city streets. The next day, stalled going 20mph in the neighborhood.

Took it out again this weekend and barely made it around the block and keeps stalling. No check engine codes either. It seems as if the same bucking/gear dropping problem, just worse.

Any suggestions?
