I am assuming that the sensor just above the oil filter is the oil pressure sender. Anyway, it leaks. I want to take it off and put some teflon paste on it, but I cannot see the top of it to see how to remove the plastic coupling. I think that once I get it off, the sending unit will unbolt from the block. Can anyone give me some help with this?

Oil sending unit

Thanks, but I cannot figure out the type of connector in the wiring harness. I can barely get to it. Where is the connector "latch" (on top?) and is it just one which you pry open with a screw driver to detach?

Years ago I've done a couple, but couldn't remember the connector combination so I gave it search on the net. Hope this helps:
If you have the 4.7 Liter V-8 the oil pressure sending unit is directly above the oil filter on the driver's side. To be able to easily remove the connector, remove the oil filter , On the connector, slide the red tab sideways, push down on the plastic tail on the rear of the connector and slide it back. Use a 1 and 1/16 inch DEEP socket to remove the sensor or if you have to, a wrench. You can do this without removing the filter but you will need to remove the connector blindly.

Just a confirmation on the technique:
1) remove oil filter
2) slide red tab on backside (just push it from one side or the other until it moves a bit) (My connector just cracked off :))
3) Pinch tail end of connector near the wire and slide off
4) Use 1-1/16 deep socket ($10 at sears) to loosen/remove old sensor
5) Reverse to install (be careful about over torquing the sensor - some here have cracked off the connector) - I turned it until the torque stepped up quite a bit and the connector was facing the same direction as when I took it out)

My old sensor had oil all inside of it!

Slide the red tab on the connector and it will just be able to be slid off easliy.

To help others, I am just posting this from another thread. On the 4.0 it is on the passenger side of the engine, all the way back near the last cylinder and close to the firewall.

"Hey All, My gauge will intermittently not work and I am pretty sure the oil pressure sending unit is the problem, it seems to be a common one.
As an FYI, I went to Autozone and the part was $24 and change, the genuine mopar part at the dealership was $20. The parts look identical, but I was surprised to see the OEM part was actually cheaper. I am replacing mine this weekend with the Mopar part.

Cheap? they must have went up, just bought one from autozone 49.99 put it on and leaking at time of installation... took it back off and tried teflon tape and still leaking? Faulty part or what, I have no idea...
