I bought an after market shift nob and I can't figure out how to remove the old stock nob. It's a manuel trans shifter, any help would be great thanks.
I think if you pry out the plastic insert in the top, there's a nut in there you have to remove.I bought an after market shift nob and I can't figure out how to remove the old stock nob. It's a manuel trans shifter, any help would be great thanks.
Yup, it's quite the PITA to get that insert out too. Mine was basically destroyed by the time I got it out.I think if you pry out the plastic insert in the top, there's a nut in there you have to remove.
THat's because there's a locknut inside it...I removed mine last week, used a rubber grip pad and turned the whole knob. I was then able to install it by turning it back on. It took quite a bit of torque to break it loose though.
I was not aware of that, threads on and off fine as of now though and i didn't have to tear up the knob scince I was not replaceing it.THat's because there's a locknut inside it...
Mine is the same way. I can untwist it by hand if i want to.I jacked up the original shift nob trying to remove the top cap piece. I never got it off, I eventually just got it to twist off out of pure frustration. Some how the nut on top came loose.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try and remove mine to reposition it as it is crooked now. Bugs me.I took my insert out and replaced it with a bottle cap (I was bored). There is a notch (that I didn't know about until later) to the left side of the insert. I think if you use a flat pocket screw driver, it should pop right out. Like everyone else, I boogered up the shifter knob a bit trying to remove it.

Incorrect. The correct way to remove both the 5 and 6 speed shifter knobs is to twist it off. Nothing is destroyed.
