I'd like to get some christmas lights on the TJ this year. What is recommended for mounting the lights to the body of the jeep? I just searched google for quite a bit and couldnt find any mounting tips.

Zip ties will work for some parts but what is used to mount to the hood, around the windshield, doors and rear frame?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have your top on the jeep? I have a soft top on, thats the part I need to figure out still. I've got lights around the base of the jeep (need one more strand of LED lights). I'd like to get some on the top though. I got a 24in wreath for the grill too.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow night after I get the base finished.

Any idea's on securing to the soft top?

The palm tree was a nice touch. BTW, I miss the boat parade down
there. We used to watch it every year when we lived in Pompano. :cheers2:

Just a piece of advice, unless you're planning on participating in some organized parade or cruise, I'd skip on lighting up your Jeep. Most states would consider this illegal auxiliary lighting and you may find yourself in a bit of trouble if you have a run in with an overzealous police officer.

I talked to an ex-trooper and a couple of cops.
Things to avoid are lights that blink, and lights
that are all blue, and red. Be careful with all white
lights too, that can be blinding. I've been running with
the Jeep lit up from Thanksgiving - through News Years
for the past 5 years.

§ 547.305. RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF LIGHTS.
(a) A motor vehicle lamp or illuminating device, other than a headlamp, spotlamp, auxiliary lamp, turn signal lamp, or emergency vehicle or school bus warning lamp, that projects a beam with an intensity brighter than 300 candlepower shall be directed so that no part of the high-intensity portion of the beam strikes the roadway at a distance of more than 75 feet from the vehicle.
(b) Except as expressly authorized by law, a person may not operate or move equipment or a vehicle, other than a police vehicle, with a lamp or device that displays a red light visible from directly in front of the center of the equipment or vehicle.
(c) A person may not operate a motor vehicle equipped with a red, white, or blue beacon, flashing, or alternating light unless the equipment is:
(1) used as specifically authorized by this chapter; or
(2) a running lamp, headlamp, taillamp, backup lamp, or turn signal lamp that is used as authorized by law.
(d) A vehicle may be equipped with alternately flashing lighting equipment described by Section 547.701 or 547.702 only if the vehicle is:
(1) a school bus;
(2) an authorized emergency vehicle;
(3) a church bus that has the words "church bus" printed on the front and rear of the bus so as to be clearly discernable to other vehicle operators;
(4) a tow truck while under the direction of a law enforcement officer at the scene of an accident or while hooking up to a disabled vehicle on a roadway;
or
(5) a tow truck with a mounted light bar which has turn signals and stop lamps in addition to those required by Sections 547.322, 547.323, and 547.324, Transportation Code.

Truckers have been doing this for years. :thumbsup:

All those Christmas lights 🎄looked awesome! 💯I’m going to be in a parade next month and would appreciate any tips. How do you attach that many lights? How many feet and how many strands do you recommend? Did you use inverter or battery operated lights? What supplies other than lights do you need? Thanks!

750 lights plus a light palm tree!

paper binder clips.. did this on my first CJ back in the day and it worked. Theres a fabric lip that covers the zippers, use binder clips and clip them about every 8 inches..
