Center console as a cooler?

Wondering if anyone uses or has used their center console as a cooler?

I noticed it is lined with a plastic piece and also has two bolts in the bottom that would work as drains since they go through to the ground? I dont really keep anything in there so I thought about keeping some soda and snacks in there on long trips?

I, for one, think this is a pretty cool project, you could probably "reverse engineer" a 12V auto-cooler and mock something up.

Won't you just carry a small cooler or 12V cooler? The console isn't insulated so it would be one lousy cooler.

I was thinking of just dumping a bag of ice in mine and letting it melt out the bottom bolt hole. It is already fully lined inside. I wonder if I could take and fill the space between the liner and the console with some spray foam to help? I wouldn't think it would really melt all that much quicker than a small cooler that was sitting out in the open on the back seat? There is nothing in there so I guess it wont hurt to try it anyways huh?

I've thought about doing this as well. You could also try some peel and stick insulation either on the inside or the outside of the interior compartment. Maybe something like Thermotec or something like Dynamat that they use to reduce the rattle from subs in cars.

The two bolts just bolt onto tiny holes on the tub, so if you want it to drain you'll have to drill new holes through both console and tub, otherwise water will just run to your floorboard.
