I am going to weld some rock sliders i made to the unibody of my xj. should i weld some plates to the frame first, and then weld the sliders to the plates. Will this be stronger than welding them straight to the frame.

Thanks for your help

Watch the heat of the welder, or you will burn through, creating a problem. I'd also plate the unibody with some 1/4" angle iron, so it wont tear the metal when you hit a rock. AND be sure that its attached to the pinch seam. That helps a TON!

I would recommend the TNT stiffeners or 3x3 angle iron to make ur own. and then weld the sliders right on to that.

But then again I would never install rock sliders that hang down and suck up my ground clearence either so.

(I cut out my rock panels and welded in 2x4x3/16 and backed it with 2x2x3/16)
