so far i have almost got the whole interior gutted. i was thinking of using a roofing product called blueskin to soundproof anything metal.(same as the expensive stuff.. just plastic, not foil on the one side) then carpet. vinal on the hardtop, doors, and any metal the carpet doesnt cover. i was thinking insulation in the shifter dust covers... um.. new seals everywhere... including windshield.. anyone experiement with this? thanks

First I'd line the tub all the way up the sides and all. Even the firewall if wanna get the full effect. Next you could lay easily removeable carpet. That will be the biggest nose damper. Undercoat the bottom and especially the wheel wells to keep rust a way and it will help(I did mine). Full metal doors and a hard top would do the trick but may not be worth it. A sailcloth top would be a second choice. Tighten up every nut and bolt you can get your hands on. Check wiring and hoses that may tap on the body at speed. Grease the chassis and all points possible. May sound like I'm going overboard but there's nothing like the feeling of a tight, quiet vehicle. Cuts down on fatigue on longer trips. All this may seem minute and individually you may not notice a thing, except for lining the tub, but all together it does work. Good luck.

yeah I'm with bama....this is the second thread i have seen of someone wanted to make their jeep "quiet" like a car.....its just not going to happen......if you want a quiet jeep get a grand cherokee or one of those liberty things......

Hey, I don't think he wants a Lexus quality sound level, but for those of us whose YJ's are Daily drivers, a little quiet-ER isn't so bad. Personally, if I had the cash, I'd Herculine followed by some Dynamat (make sure to leave access to your drain plugs) followed by some good old carpet. Sure, the carpet isn't so forgiving with dirt, but you can always pull it out to wash and spray down the rest of the tub....

Just my $.02......

After Herculining the thing just put dynomat in the rear...would that work or be useless. I've fooled around with the idea of Hercing it then carpeting it.

Herc-in the tub does wonders for sound. I have done it and agree with ExCCS Racer, make sure you get every nook and crany. I am even concidering doing my hard top in white on the inside. I also have a rubber seal around the tub for a better seal on the Top.

Good luck.

While on the herc topic, I have rust on my floors (I live in Canada, our winters are horrid and the salt on the road is insane) but want to put herc in it one day. Do I have to sandblast the whole floor right to the metal or just sand off the loose rust? Any primers that stop\go over rust??

wow... thanks for the responses!... nubian: new beginning.. anyways... that blueskin is very similar to dynamat... except its only $1/sq foot.. instead of $6. any yes im not looking for a lexus ride... just a better db level... my mom has a 95 i6... way quieter than my 91 i4... this is why i want better...thanks again for the tips..

carpet the inside of your hard top too major major sound reduction there I did that to mine and wow. I have everything carpeted exept the doors now and its very quiet in my jeep. and i have a very loud exast. v8 hedder to duel 2.5 exast to 36 inch glass packs that come out infrount of the rear tires so the exast is blasting in your ears and with the windows up its quiet in there you can accually have a conversation without raising your voice. YA im changeing the exast soon to go out the back of the jeep to help it be even quieter in there. that will be nice

try the sound deadner spray i like it.

i have a 92 YJ......4 cyl. straight pipes...and now either hole in front of my CAT or blown gasket....and...i sound like a semi........i've never heard a vehicle this loud before.....i can't hear my radio......myself think or anything...u hear it echoing off buildings like crazy
