I have a 1995 Wrangler and I am told it has the Rio Grande package on it by my insurance company but unlike others I see that say it on the sides, mine does not. In fact I have never seen a Black Rio Grande ever! Whats the deal and what makes my Jeep special because it has this package?

Thanks!!
Mike

4.0L's were in short supply in 95, so Jeep created the RioGrande, basically a fancy 4 cylinder. They have the Sahara interior/exterior trim, and a 4 cylinder engine/drivetrain.

Not sure about them being special, more useless junk to take off and throw away.

You might wish to see if your Jeep was involved in a major accident. If there are no decals or markings on the Jeep - it might have been re-painted.

On the other hand - the P.O. (Previous Owner) might have wanted the options given with the Grande but hated the decals and had them removed.

Basically - the Rio Grande is an "all options" version of the 4-banger.

Factory colors for the Rio are: metalic green, white, and tan. All come with the spice tops & interior. Not to much special about it I asked this ? about a week ago and no one could find any thing "Special" about it. BUT I would definitly have a back ground check done on the vehicle like NaeKid said.

My buddy owns a body shop and he said its clean of damage or repaint. I think the insurance company is wrong because this Jeep is stripped. I had to put a radio in it. The only thing it has is the alloy wheels.

Thanks.

I happen to have a Rio Grande...mine is white though with a spice interior. It has cloth seats and a leather bound steering wheel (like most cherokees) The top is not factory...but a Bestop Supertop that was put on by the previous owners.

Here is a pic...

I really dont like the decals...plus they are peeling and coming off in places. I'm thinking about removing all of them except for the Rio Grande logo at the back.

Well the gutless cat was not something I did to try to get more HP or gas mileage...I did it because my cat had failed and was clogged and causing poor mileage and power (plus an annoying rattle). This is just a temporary solution until I can afford a new high flow cat (gutted or no cat makes your exaust really STINKY!)

The K&N mod seemed to help mileage a bit and I could definitely feel a "seat of pants" gain in HP. Its a great mod and easy to do.

Just want you to know that my Jeep is NOT stock...it does have a lift and bigger tires that I put on. The Rio Grande package is just the decals and interior...thats all.

This is one of the stock Rio colors before and after and a pic of the interior color mine no onger has the Rio Grande decals on it, but I took them off

My jeep is listed as a Rio Grande as well according to the vin, but it is was not a Rio Grande edition. I am positive of this because I bought it new in 95. I think there were some funky things going on at the factory when they made the last few yjs.

My Rio Grande has the badging, 4cyl, and identical spice interior to Plumber1's YJ pictured above but I have silver steel wheels. :(

But I'm going to go with Cragar D windows in color black and 31's and a RE lift for my christmas present.
