I am getting ready to replace my factory blown tweeters and i was wondering if anyone as replaced them with 3.5 inch component speakers? I will attempt to if i think there will be enough room for them.

Just did it. Worked just fine. Pry up that panel on top of the dash with a spatula (4 tension clips), remove the old ones, then i took wire cutters and a file and cut away one side of the two screw in places to make room (it's covered by a panel anyway), filed the plastic out a little but, and wiggle them in there. They stick out more than the stock ones, but the plastic cover allows a fair amount of the speaker to stick up and still goes down flush. It looks like there is no way the speakers will ever make it in there, but they do quite easily. Good luck.

A dealership can replace them with the same flimsy paper speakers. There's word that the new ones come with a capacitor to prevent them from blowing, but they will likely run you $80+ installation, vs $35 do it yourself, and the stock ones will still suck. I just realized that my first post was replying to someone with a very similar name. How strange.

Blaine is right - get your own tweeters and install them yourself. Look on eBay or check these out:

The above include the hi-pass filter cap. They drop right in, but you will need to cut off the factory harness and crimp or solder/heat-shrink your wires.

Drink beer if you're old enough, otherwise i guess it's cool-aid.

will the 3.5 speakers drop right in or will there have to be some trimming required? I already got the stock ones pulled out and unplugged cuz they were rattling....that gets annoying. I figure if i can get 3.5 in there that will sound better than just some tweeters.

The 3.5" speekers will fit, but you will have to mount them differently...
