Here is another one. This one was sent to my shop. The photo is taken at the Safelite Columbia, SC warehouse. Are you kidding me? The first post above was an XYG Safelite, This one is a US Safelite part:

WTF was this installer thinking when he cut this out? Then to leave it like this? 03 Silverado.

Here is a case where someone put an aftermarket glass in a Buick and the radius was WAY the F off. So crafty installer fills the corner with glue, lol. Guess who did it? Guess who wouldn't warranty it?

My 98 xj has been leaking ever since I got the windshield replaced by safelite. I wasn't there for the install, but I'm guessing he messed something up or it wouldn't be leaking every time it rains.

I've also already have 3 chips in the glass and haven't even had it for a year, is it possible that OEE glass chips easier? Because my mom's car doesn't have chips and her glass is original and she got the car before I had my windshield replaced.

Tell me the brand of glass and DOT number. And yes OEE does chip and pit easier. It is a different hardness and is thinner. Also the DW1140 windshields are prone to leakage if they don't use enough urethane. The OEE glass has 2 high spots up top that don't usually make full contact with the glue. Look from inside where the glue meets the glass and body. Look for white chalky substance. This is water intrusion. By the way, Safelite has a lifetime warranty on their installs. Demand a replacement. If they wont do it and your insurance paid for it, CALL THEM and demand it be fixed. They will make excuses as to why they wont fix it. Tell them if they wont fix it you will want the electrical system fixed due to their leak. They will do it. I used to train for them years back. I have seen them buy cars from customers due to damages caused by them. I left them because they do not allow for correct training and training time.

Ok, forgot about this thread, Sorry. Anyone with a Safelite windshield that is happy with it is a one in a million. Ask even a Safelite installer what they think. Its the worst on the market.
Rain sensor glass should ALWAYS be OEM.
If OEE is actually OEM then why isn't it OEM? And why don't vehicle manufaturers use it? Hmm.
Heres why. OEE designation was made up by Safelite so they could compete usuing their brand glass. OEE MEETS DOT standards while OEM EXCEEDS it. I could post 1000 pictures of defective OEE glass to 1 true OEM defect.
True, Mopar glass is NOT made by Mopar but a few different manufacturers. PGW (PPG) is one of them. Look at the DOT code. The PGW Mopar will be made at the PGW(PPG) US Plant while the PGW (XYG) non Mopar will be made at XinYI glass in China.
If the PGW glass non Mopar has a US made sticker on it then it is OEM quality, If not well its not.
Pilkington (I was an operations manager for them) Used to be ONLY OEM but this is no longer the case. They were always known as the Cadillac of glass and you paid a premium for it.
Nowadays, They all have an OEE line but only a few get the OEM title and you still have to make sure you are getting a true OEM.
The difference between DEALER OEM and direct supplier OEM is dealer will have the make name.
For example, a manufacture(original) installed glass will always say Toyota on it and underneath say PGW, Lamisafe, LN Libbey Nippon etc. Those are OEM makers. Now you can get an OEM quality glass and it wont say Toyota juts Libbey Nippon, PGW etc. but is exactly thew same glass as long as it comes from the OEM plant.
The cost differences are huge with certain makes. Example, 2005 Corolla dealer glass my cost $890, cost direct from PGW $45.
My shop would not install anything aftermarket unless requested.
If your vehicle is within 3 years of new then DEMAND OEM glass. And Mopar glass has a NAGS part number and can be billed as such by the glass shop just like Fords Carlite glass. There are a few ways to get your Mopar glass and get them to pay. I keep my vehicles registered in SC so free glass for me!
That windshield for your Jeep costs me $78 plus materials for an OEM non Mopar.
Good info on all of your posts......thanks. :highfive:
How do you know you're getting Pilkington glass if you ask for it? Will it have that name & OEM on the glass.
Can you list the other Mopar manufacturers besides PGW (PPG)? Is Pilkington 1 of them?

Mopar uses a bunch of vendors, all have to be OEM capable. Some are guardian, crinamex, Pgw, Pilkington. The glass has what is called the "bug" on the bottom somewhere either centered or a side. That is the writing on it. By law, it must have the manufacturer, date code, dot code, plant number, tint/shade code etc. Tint code is the as1/as2 etc. Dot will tell you where and by who is was made. So even if it says Pgw on it, run the dot code and it will tell you who really made it. When the tech arrives, it should have a decal on it that says the manufacturer, part number and country of origin. For example, dw1140gbn is for an xj. Dw is domestic windshield and curved. Even wranglers are curved all the way back until the cj which is flat. 1140 is the actual part number and gbn means green tint, blue shade strip, no attachments. Attachments could be rain sensor bracket, rear camera bracket, lane emergence sensor, etc.

Just remember if its a safelite brand or XYG its non OEM. If its Chinese, Not OEM. If the designator after the part number ends with a P its as premium part. It could be a P or Mopar, Carlite etc. For example DW1140GBNP. Ask to see the sticker on the glass before install begins. If its a Pilkington you want US Glass or Mexican. If its PGW you want American. Any other questions on your install, Feel free to PM me.

Great thread. I jumped over here to read it and learn something. Are premium glass parts still available for all glass on a ZJ? Would the side glasses be that critical? Thanks again dodge! Here is a supposed pilkington # DB0881ZYPNN. Is it good glass or the china stuff? Supposed to be a hatch glass for a ZJ.
