I am about to paint my 83 as well and chose white. Why? Cause it hides everything BUT dirt. CJ bodies aren't meant to be perfectly straight. At least, I've never seen one that actually has miles on it with a PERFECTLY straight body. White hides all the little dings and such not to mention the waves in the metal.

Oh yeah.. the other reason.. that was the color it was from the factory - 4 paint jobs ago (according to my sanding). Since then it's been blue, red, black and white again. Took it back down to bare metal before primer-etching it and now.. paint!!

CJ Color

Definitely YYYYEEEELLLLOOOOWWWWWW!! I'm about to have my 78 painted and it will be yellow. 4WD Hardware had a yellow CJ with a black top and black trim on the cover of their last catalog and it looks tough. I am actually taking the cover with me to the auto parts/paint supplier to see how close they can match it.

Black! Both my CJs have been black with white spoke wheels. My YJ is black. My wife's ZJ is black. The advantage? I can touch up scratches and dings with WalMart Gloss Black, a real plus now that my CJ is over 20 years old and my YJ is over 10 years old.

Of all the vehicles I've had over the years I've found that white is the easiest to keep looking clean, provided you stay outta the mud and any color looks dirty after that except possibly brown. Black looks really slick as long as you keep it clean. A little bit of dust and it looks completely thrashed. Black will also get extremely hot in the summer sun, ouch!
YELLOW IS NICE!! One of my buds has his in yellow and looking just the one hfjeff mentioned above. My personal preference is metalic-blue, ahhh so pretty.

My 81 CJ7 is original brown with the yellow and orange Renegade design on the hood and sides. I don't clean it very much though, since it pretty much looks the same clean or dirty. The paint along the sides got all scratched up from the sticker weeds and tree branches in the pastures so now I'm now a firm believer in "mud protects". And it does, since I keep mud on it, the paint never gets scratched, keep in mind that I do clean the undercarrage and drivetrain however (don't want that rust). On the occasion that I do clean her for some highway driving, the paint is clean and shiny as ever with a little waxing.
Wax On, Wax Off :p

1) Silver
2) Metalic Blue
3) Fire Engine Red
4) Viper Yellow

Those are my favorities. I can't wait to get a new body and the money to get it painted. I think I'm gonna go with silver.

My $0.02,
Marc

I saw a Corvette Racing Yellow on a Jeep and it look awsome. I wish I would have seen it before mine got painted Ford Redfire. It was a little expensive, but I like it. I can't wait until I get my jeep done so I can put the body on it.

I gotta agree with JIM79CJ7, Orange Baby!! As soon as I finish up my 75 CJ, it's getting a coat of Prowler Orange. Sorta metallic Orange used for 1 year on the Plymouth Prowler. Actually I like the bright, vibrant colors. Yellow looks good, I also like the Amber Fire on my Dakota.

I'm taking my CJ into the paint shop this week, and would like to know if anybody have photos of these two colors:

Metalic Silver vs. Gunpowder (?) Gray

Purple of course! Why? Because it's not the standard, white, red, blue, black yellow!
