So today I started up my 2005 jeep wk 5.7 and as I started going forward and pressed the break, I could feel the jeep still wanting to accelerate. And when I let go of the break and apply no gas the jeep accerlates by itself. I had to pretty much ride tbe break and not use the gas pedal. The traction control light came on through all of this as well and the little red lightening bolt symbol flashed the whole entire time as well. I turned off the jeep and restarted it and it was ok but it threw a check engine light.

I checked to make sure I had nothing stuck under the pedals. Could this be the tps??

There is no TPS to replace. The Hemi is drive by wire.

Get the code pulled. I'd suspect the throttle body is to blame. Never hurts to try cleaning it first before replacing parts.

Possible that something is wrong with the pedal position sensor (whatever that unit is called exactly), but more likely the TB itself.

My old XJ did this and turned out to something with the cruise control. It would do it with the cruise control not being on which was odd. Since I never used it, I just disconnected and no more problems. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

I t does the same thing in reverse as well. I will check the TB and the cruise control option. I get a host of codes!!!

p2174
p0121
p0221
p2135
p2101
p2110
p 2111
p060e

I only had one of thse codes as of yesterday and today these all popped up.!!! Anyone offer any info?

p0121 - Throttle Position (TP) sensor #1 performance
p0221 - Throttle Position (TP) sensor #2 performance
p060E - Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) level 2 Throttle Position (TP) sensor performance problem
p2135 - The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an error between Throttle Position (TP) signal 1 and 2
p2101 - The ECM has detected an error between the desired throttle position and actual throttle position
p2110 - The Engine Control Moduel (ECM) has detected that the PWM is too high for an extended period
p2111 - Throttle valve locked during Engine Control Module (ECM) order to close

You can go to http://engine-codes.com/ And put in your codes and it will tell you what the code is for the specific vehicle, and possible causes

Hope that helps

Thanks for all that. So im assuming this all has to do with the throttle. Should I just get that replaced/fix?

Or should I ask, how bad is this for the jeep? And in terms of DIY or take it to dealer...
If you go to the link I gave for the codes at the bottom of my message it will give you some of the things that "MIGHT" cause the error code.... Some of them have a couple of different things. I've found personally that I go to my mechanic and tell him the codes that I'm reading and he puts it on his machine and gets a more detailed report.. The codes basically give him a place to start looking.

I'd say that once you get someone (maybe an autoparts store) to read the codes and if their equipment is more advanced than our code readers they can tell you the parts and you can decide if it is better to DIY or have someone else do it. Personally its gotten to the point where physically I can only do minor things to my jeep. Everything else goes tothe dealer or my mechanic.. (depending on what it is and my mechanic will tell me if I should or have to take it to the dealer).

The HEMI has ALWAYS been DBW. Even the 2003 model which first appeared in Ram trucks.

To the OP - Get a look at the TB and clean it up if it looks nasty...which it probably does. It could just be getting jammed up with junk. It could very well just be bad also.

Update: Well the unwated accleration incident hasnt happend again but I still get a very rough idle and Ive been stalling out at least twice a day while driving slow and coming to a stop in traffic. As well as surges when increasing speed from a stop kinda like a clunk noise. And I have extremely high rpms and slow acceleration. Ill step on the gas and my rpms will shoot way up instantly and my speed is only increasing 1-2mph. I also checked the TB expecting to find it full of gunk, but suprisingly it was very clean, barely any gunk on the butterfy valve.

Could this be the EGR? I bought one today for 39$ but havent installed it yet.

I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler (bought brand new) and the same thing just happened to me on 7/30/18. I stepped on the gas to pull onto the parkway and my car took off like a rocket so I took my foot off the pedal but it kept going faster and faster up to 90mph so I put both feet on the brake pressing as hard as I could, but it wouldn't stop so I swerved through traffic and raced off to the side of the road and turned off the key. I smelled burning rubber and my car wouldn't restart. I kept trying to start it but it wouldn't start. After being on the phone for so long with the insurance company towing and Jeep and the tow truck guy, I tried again, and it started. I drove it to Jeep and asked hem to run a diagnostic, but they said there was nothing they could do! I also notice if I'm idling while unlocking my garage, the engine revs up really high. Something is terribly wrong and I'm now terrified to drive my Wrangler.

1. Be careful with EGR replacement. Some aftermarket brands have internal connections that do not play well with the Jeep WK PCM. Never heard of an issue with MOPAR components.

2. The part of the throttle body / butterfly that gets cruddy is the back side. Viewed from the front (inlet), mine always looks good. It is the back side that needs attention. I need to use alcohol, cotton t-shirt, and Q-tips around the butterfly shaft to clean it up, usually about every 30,000 miles, when I do plugs.

3. EGR and PCV valves both discharge into the intake manifold about this point, so nasty stuff builds up in the turbulent flow. An oil catch can on the PCV valve line helps minimize the crud accumulation.

Probably have to write down all set & pending DTC's, then clear them when work is accomplished.

That's my story & I'm sticking to it. :wink2:

For general maintenance (every vehicle I've had for years), i use seafoam. I put 1/3 can in oil and rest in gas at every oil change. I then use can in air intake yearly. Spray can works well, follow instructions on can.

Helps prevent/clean sludge, carbon deposits and clean throttle body as well as clean injectors.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? I had an identical issue to yours last week. I tried replacing the TPS and IAC valve to no avail. I recreated what I had done earlier that day (checking the PCV valve) and discovered that the hose connecting the valve to the manifold was moving freely. In other words, I had inadvertently disconnected it from the engine. Reinserting it resolved the problem.

Check all hoses running into the manifold.

What happened with your wrangler? This sounds terrifying
