I Saw A "limited Edition" 77 Model Golden Eagle Today As Am Curious As To What The Difference(s) Are In It And A Golden Eagle
It Had The Limited Decals On Both Sides Of The Hood And On The Glove Box Door And Appeared To Be Factory Original
Let Me K Now If You Can Help As I Want To Buy This Jeep

In 1977 Jeep introduced the Golden Eagle as a limited edition vehicle. You could only get it in two colors, a dark green and a dark brown and they only made a certain number. Well, AMC had a hit on their hands, so in 1978, the Golden Eagle package went from a limited production to you could get the Golden Eagle package with several colors. I know back then there were some upset folks that bought 1977 Golden Eagle Limited Editions that thought they were going to have a one of a kind Jeep and then in 1978 found out they weren't. When I ordered my white 78 CJ-7 Renegade I considered getting a white Golden Eagle but there were a couple just like that floating around the town where I lived at the time.

So, the 77 GEs were limited edition and the 78s and newer were not.

thank you very much, that clears it up for me - this one is a 77 GE and the ltd ed decals and eagle decals are all in pretty good shape - it has all the original levi seats but are in really bad shape - rest of the jeep is all original
anyway thanks again
That is not unusual for the Levis seats, they looked great for the first few years, but usually went downhill fast. The design of the seats changed slightly in 78. The seat bolster closest to the door opening on the part you sit on usually ripped and seperated from the center section of the seat from getting in and out. On pre 78s
the seat seam ran over the front of the seat thus amplifying the problem. On 78 and newer, AMC ran the piping on the outer edge of the seat all the way around the top edge of the bottom cushion for reinforcement. It helped but not a lot.

The fact it was levis vinyl didn't make any difference as the wellington vinyl seat usually ripped or seperated in the same fashion. It was a poor seat cushion design more than anything.

In fact I have noticed TJ Wrangler driver's seats seem to rip on the vinyl side panel after few years of getting in and out. Hasn't happened on mine yet, but I figure it is coming.

I think there pretty cool, but my luck, if I put one on it would bubble and peel and look like crap...

regarding the seats - does anyone know where i might pick up a set of levi tan seats for my GE?
thanks
You might try a place in Texas, I think it is called Collin's Brother's Jeep or something like that. If I have the name right, I know they seem to have vintage or reproduction stuff for Jeeps. I know at one time they were advertising replacement Renegade decals. I also know from time to time they seemed to have vintage/rare Jeeps in good condition.

Well, I have never heard of a "Super Star Package" Jeep. In the late 70s IIRC an aftermarket firm, I don't recall which one, made up some special edition CJ-7s that had some design on the hood, kinda like the sunrise design you see on the Arizona State flag. It looks a sun coming up with rays coming from the sun and ending in stars. Best description I can give you. If I were to see a picture of the Jeep you are talking about I could tell you if it is one of the CJ-7s I am thinking of. They may have even been called the Lone Star edition or something like that. Memory ain't what it used to be.

In 1973 AMC manufactured a special edition CJ-5 called the Super Jeep. It had some striping with stars designed in, from front to rear, special color combo seats for the interior, and came in 3 colors, White, Tan, and Blue. In my travels I have seen only these 3 colors for the Super Jeep so I don't think there were any other colors.

My understanding of the production of the Super Jeep, or one version is that AMC did not have enough aluminum slotted wheels for the 73 model year to fulfill orders for the Renegade package, so the Super Jeep was a compromise having Renegade features, with factory steel rims instead of the aluminum rims. Another version, says the Super Jeep was a marketing idea to push sales of the V8 powered CJ-5. Another version said it was a way to sell more Jeeps by cutting back on option costs, (elimination of the aluminum rims for example). I don't really know which is right, but I tend to believe the lack of aluminum wheels was the reason for the Super Jeep since all of the stock Super Jeeps I have seen had the steel wheels with H78-15 Goodyear Suburbanite M&S tires from the factory.

Sorry I don't really answer your question, but these are the only two Jeep versions that come close to your super star question.

I have read the Jeep Bible cover to cover and also have the Jeep buyers guide and there is no mention of a "super star package" - agree with tac re: super jeep - did not know it came in tan tho - buddy of mine had a white one in high school - let a buddy borrow it and he flipped and totaled it - havent seen one up close since - several repro's on ebay though
