I just bought a restored 1969 Jeep CJ 5. The front end appears to be about 4-6 inches higher than the rear. The only thing I can see that might be the problem is the shocks. Anybody got any ideas?

count the number of leaves in the springs. I had a problem with 1 corner of my 60 model sagging and on further inspection it had 9 layer springs on 3 corners and a 7 layer on 1. so its possible someone put a new rear end in it springs and all and they are different than the front

Thanks. Only difference with the CJ 7 is that you have a much longer wheel base. The wheel base on the CJ 5s were lengthened by 4 inches in the early 70s. I've got a much shorter distance to handle the rise. Thanks again.

It is indeed could be a leaf issue. The rear has 4 and the front has 6. Thanks!
That's typical. The front springs often have more leaves to accommodate the extra weight of the engine.

Got longer than stock shackles on the front? Actually a higher front end will absorb bumps on the trail better and enable your Jeep to land level when you jump it.:) Ask any 'prerunner' truck owner. They'll tell ya' that;)
