ive been itchin my butt for a XJ for a while. i think i got the Jeep Fever from my fiance. i want to know what kind of mileage the 4.0's get with 4dr. 4x4 because ive been told that they got crappy mileage, i pretty sure i would be able to afford the maintenance but im afraid that i wouldnt be able to support its "gasoline addiction"

i just wanna see what kinda mileage you guys get.

thanks

Bone stock I could easily get 20mpg, now with the lift, 33's, and stock gearing I get 14-15. It will get a little better when I regear. And i keep my foot off the throttle, take it easy on the skinny pedal.

I get about 16-17 mpg. However I rarely go above 25-35 mph because thats as fast as you can go around this town. I get about 22mpg when I get off the island.

City driving in Cleveland where I go through a whole tank and not go over 35 mph and there is a light just about on every corner, I get about 15. For highway only driving at 70-75, I get 19. This is a 96 4x4 with 4.0 and automatic. I check my mileage almost everytime. I now have a budget boost and 30s and it is 14 in the city and same on the highway.

Just another thought and shameless plug

I use a program called Automotive Wolf to track my fuel mileage and also keep track of vehicle maintenance. Works great and is fairly inexpensive, also gives customizable options for vehicle additions and scheduling extra maintenance. Using this program I can tell you that as of my last tank of gas my average overall fuel mileage since the day I owned it is 18.14MPG.

Started off with a full tank a week ago, now i'm just under half a tank with 230 somethin miles on the odo.. I will jump up and down if she breaks 300 miles on a whole tank. 300 miles on a full 19 gal tank would be an avg. of ...15.7 mpg... If it helps I have gotten on the gas a few times this tank.

Heres my update.. Went 304 miles and the fuel light had not yet come on, I usually go about another 10 or so when it comes on.. So lets just figure 315 miles, tank was full but could have held a little more.. I drove like normal most of the time but on several occasions the RPM got over 3k just messing around and the highest it saw was about 4.5 grand passing a huge truck.. So driving like a granny the whole time would have saved a few miles I guess. I'm proud I broke 300 miles on the tank! Hopefully within a week or so I'll have my Super 40 Flowmaster and my high flow cat on.. So we will see if there is any improvment.. Also may be doing synthetic fluids in diffs soon.

When i had my bad cat, and mud tires on, i was lucky to break $250 miles on a tank.
Now with the new cat on and my tires for road driving, im hopeing to go way over 300 miles on a tank.....keep your fingers crossed for the fuel prices to drop
