my t case locks now but front wheels don't spin and when they do you can hear them pop in and out what is that all about. do i need to get rid of t-case drop since i put in slip yoke elim kit
Yes, that's the point of a SYE, to get rid of the transfer case drop, but should not effect 4wd.

What do you mean they don't spin? With them in the air on jack stands or are you mashing the gas in gravel trying to ge them to spin?

I put in a SYE and with the advanced adapter stand alone TC shift bracket with and undercover fab high clearence skid. I put the TC in 4low and adjusted the linkage because I could not put the TC in 2high. When I was done I can go into 4low and 2high but not 4high. What hell did I do wrong here?
If you can get it in 2hi & 4low, you should be able the get it in 4hi. It is between the two. Are you certain it is in 2hi & not 4hi? Did you try engaging the transfer case manually into all 3?

Yes I am sure it is 4hi. I moved the shifter until 4hi engaged but it would pop out of gear after a little driving. I am waiting on my rear DS to get back from the driveline shop so I am on the front DS so I am very sure about the TC being in 2hi/4hi/4lo.

I just can't get the adjustment right. I follow all the direction on the SYE install it was actually really easy. I don't know what I could have done wrong on the install.

is this with just manual? or is it different with automatic..? cause i have an automatic and it wont go to 4lo and it grinds gears
Yes you need to adjust your shift linkage it's the same steps.

Just put the novak in a few weeks ago and its been a great improvement! I have a 2bb and jks bl. The linkage was all jacked and wasn't able to get 4lo to engage without it pooping out after a few feet. Everything is better then stock after the cable install!

Alright, not sure if this has been covered, but my linkage seems to be fine, except.... when I go in 4lo (or hi) then go back to 2wd, it wont go back unless I go under it and put the linkage back in the bracket...

Any ideas? I tried securing it in the bracket but I didnt know how to keep it in there without making a hole and putting a cotter pin in it lol

I also have the linkage popping out on mine. I have a 4" superlift on my standard 97' 4 banger. I bought a new bushings for the linkage because the old one was just about gone. Even after the new one, the linkage still pops out. I'm trying to find out if adjusting that locking collar will help or should I get the linkage adapter?

The adapter linkage it's good, buy if you got $140 est get yourself the novak cable for your tc case. The install is fairly simple and you will never have to worry about it again. You can change lifts, skids and it will still work. Mine would pop in 4wl and it made me nervous but this was a great fix and now my tc shifts very smooth.

No shim.
Straight from the FSM:

SHIFT LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
(1) Shift transfer case into 4L position. (make sure your shifter is fully in the 4L position)
(2) Raise vehicle.
(3) Loosen lock bolt on adjusting trunnion (Fig.
87).
(4) Be sure linkage rod slides freely in trunnion.
Clean rod and apply spray lube if necessary.
(5) Verify that transfer case range lever is fully
engaged in 4L position. (you can do this under the vehicle at the transfer case)
(6) Tighten adjusting trunnion lock bolt.
(7) Lower vehicle

Basically, you are just ensuring that the position you put the lever inside the vehicle is the same position that the tcase lever is in and then tightening the locking bolt.
I find step one to be a little misleading since most of the time the issue is engaging 4L. How could you place it in 4L if the linkage will not permit that and that is the reason the adjustment is needed in the first place? Second is the rod connected to the trunnion intended to be bent at the end for any reason, or should it be straight?

I would shift into 4lo before you start the lift. Then you loosen the linkage so the when you lift the body it won't cause any binding. Once lift is complete you make due your tcase and lever are both in the 4lo position. That will give you a good starting point for adjustment.

Transfer case shifter adjustment question.

So my trans case is not fully into 4h when I pull back on the shifter and grinds a bit..if I push it forward just a touch its en-ganged and ok. Which way do I have to adjust the shift linkage..toward the front or rear of the vehicle..
asking another way...when in 4l,,, should the linkage bar be adjusted pulled back towards the rear of the vehicle or forward towards the front??

I replaced the part time 4 X4 switch but can;t get anything to light on the dash

I know this is an old thread, but the best one I found so far for the question I have. I bought a 2002 Liberty two days ago, and that night I noticed the Part Time light is on when the selector is in 2WD. Then when I shift up into "Part Time" the Full time light comes on, and when I put it into 4WD "Full Time" the lights go off. When I put it in the Neutral position, the 4LO light comes on and when I go to 4LO the 4LO light stays on. I notice that it is hard to turn when in 2WD with the Part Time light on.

Since I am a previous 4x4 owner of a Toyota Xtra cab pickup, I know how it feels to be in 4hi or 4 lo. Here is how it feels to me in each of the four positions.
2WD - It feels like its in 2WD with the front differential locked when turning on dry pavement it hops.
Part Time - It feels like it is in 4HI with a locked front differential. When turning on dry pavement it hops.
4HI - It feels like it is in 4HI. No hop.
4LO - It feels like it is in 4LO, No hop.HI

As you can see, it seems that the transfer case is doing what it is supposed to do except when in 2WD. Is there an electrical switch or vacuum switch that controls the locks for the Part Time setting, or is it mechanical? Is it only controlled by the linkage which is discussed above, or could it be something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Right now I am driving it in 4HI to prevent any undue wear or damage.

Anyone ever have this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

Keep in mind that this is my first Jeep, but not my first 4x4. I have been working on my own cars for 30 years. I am physically disabled: So info on how hard it would be for someone with a bad back, knees, and shoulders, to work on would also be helpful info.

1998 tj

I've just started having trouble with my 98 jeep TJ popping out of first gear from a stop. This doesn't happen in any other gear and it doesn't happen when I'm driving. Is this something that can be adjusted or is this a transmission problem.
