When adjusting the linkage for my year of jeep are you supposed to use an 1/8 inch shim behind the shifter? Reason I ask is it is starting to pop out of 4wd.
Yes, that's the point of a SYE, to get rid of the transfer case drop, but should not effect 4wd.my t case locks now but front wheels don't spin and when they do you can hear them pop in and out what is that all about. do i need to get rid of t-case drop since i put in slip yoke elim kit
If you can get it in 2hi & 4low, you should be able the get it in 4hi. It is between the two. Are you certain it is in 2hi & not 4hi? Did you try engaging the transfer case manually into all 3?I put in a SYE and with the advanced adapter stand alone TC shift bracket with and undercover fab high clearence skid. I put the TC in 4low and adjusted the linkage because I could not put the TC in 2high. When I was done I can go into 4low and 2high but not 4high. What hell did I do wrong here?
Yes I am sure it is 4hi. I moved the shifter until 4hi engaged but it would pop out of gear after a little driving. I am waiting on my rear DS to get back from the driveline shop so I am on the front DS so I am very sure about the TC being in 2hi/4hi/4lo.If you can get it in 2hi & 4low, you should be able the get it in 4hi. It is between the two. Are you certain it is in 2hi & not 4hi? Did you try engaging the transfer case manually into all 3?
^This^will^solve^all^your^issues :2thumbsup:I'm getting ready to order a Novak shifter to end this battle once and for all. From everyone i've talked to that owns one...the best $150 they have ever spent.

Anyone care to answer this question? I have a similar issue...Since lifting my 1999 Jeep Wrangler 3" I've notice a knocking noise.
When I slightly put upward pressure on the 4WD lever the knocking stops.
Any ideas on the linkage? Replacement, fix or other.
I have already installed a lowering kit.
Thanks.
Kent
Yes you need to adjust your shift linkage it's the same steps.Ceajay said:is this with just manual? or is it different with automatic..? cause i have an automatic and it wont go to 4lo and it grinds gears
Have you read the owners manual?...is this with just manual? or is it different with automatic..? cause i have an automatic and it wont go to 4lo and it grinds gears
I find step one to be a little misleading since most of the time the issue is engaging 4L. How could you place it in 4L if the linkage will not permit that and that is the reason the adjustment is needed in the first place? Second is the rod connected to the trunnion intended to be bent at the end for any reason, or should it be straight? No shim.
Straight from the FSM:
SHIFT LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
(1) Shift transfer case into 4L position. (make sure your shifter is fully in the 4L position)
(2) Raise vehicle.
(3) Loosen lock bolt on adjusting trunnion (Fig.
87).
(4) Be sure linkage rod slides freely in trunnion.
Clean rod and apply spray lube if necessary.
(5) Verify that transfer case range lever is fully
engaged in 4L position. (you can do this under the vehicle at the transfer case)
(6) Tighten adjusting trunnion lock bolt.
(7) Lower vehicle
Basically, you are just ensuring that the position you put the lever inside the vehicle is the same position that the tcase lever is in and then tightening the locking bolt.
