I have a 1998 jeep wrangler, and I found a very large crack in my exhaust manifold, and was wondering if I could weld the crack or if my best option is to just replace the manifold. The thing is, the manifold that is cracked is the flex manifold, and I thought the flex pieces were supposed to alleviate the stress that is usually put on the downpipe.
Anyways, I was just wondering if I should tig weld the crack, or just replace the manifold.
The crack goes about 3/4 of the way around the exhaust tube. Here's a few pics:

Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks!

If you weld it,it will only crack somewhere else.Replace it with a $75 Ebay one or upgrade to the newer two piece style. My Ebay cheapo has lasted for 5 years now.I sold the Jeep to a friend 4 years ago.

Shucks, I thought my shoes looked pretty good. :)
The ebay ones are the one piece manifolds with the flex joints, right?
Do you think any local parts stores would have this style manifold in stock, or just the stock style replacement manifold? I tried calling around, but it's thanksgiving, so nowhere was open.

Also, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Mine also cracked in the same area and I thought about welding it but i just ended up buying a brand new aftermarket one for $160. When I took the old one off it was actually cracked in 4 places.

Well, if a new one is going to be less than $200, then I suppose I'll just buy a new one and weld the old one for practice/ keep it as a spare.

Thank for all the help y'all. Jeepforum rocks!

I'd spend $75 and get the Ebay one myself.it's much easier than converting to the 2000' two piece design.

I guess the po had repaced the exhaust manifold before, but is's cracked pretty badly. The eBay manifolds are pretty cheap cost wise, but I have to be back at school on Monday, so I might go to advance and buy one from there. The only downfall is that it costs twice as much. :(
I think the manifold at advance is a dorman unit
