I got a 95ZJ stock...other than the exhaust. My issue is when i go to shift into 4-part time it goes into 4-part time, when i shift it into N it it stays in 4 part-time and when i shift it to 4-Lo well it stays in 4 part-time. I feel it may have something to do with my linkage but im not to sure. anyone have this issue before or may know what it could be? any input is greatly appreciated.

another question...now that i know what the issue is...how do i go about adjusting the linkage...im not exactly mechanically inclined but i would love to learn how to do this stuff not only to save money on labor but so if it happens again or if a friend has the same issue.

Just get under your jeep and look at the transfer case (attached to the tranny), look for the shift lever that has a bar (shift linkage) attached to it, you will see the bar sliding through a thing with a bolt through it, losen that bolt (it's a size 13mm) (you will probably need some PB Blaster to get it lose and for the linkgage to slide through it freely). once you have it lose, move the shifter all the way forward to 2wd and then move the lever manually on the transfer case to 2wd (check your VIC to make sure it shows that it's in 2wd). once it shows that, tighten the bolt up and then shift through all the gears to make sure it's shifting into all the gears and they display correctly

ok so i got under and i got the bolt loosened with ease of no PB Blaster i am however letting the linkage soak in it for a lil...now while its doin that...how will i know if the linkage is all the way in 2WD drive? will the rod juss stop goin forward or what?

ok and where is this lever on the TC....im not a very mechanically inclined and tryin to figure out where everything is on my own without knowing what it looks like makes it a lil more difficult for me...i know where the clinching bolt and linkage is. now is the lever for the TC connected to that in some way?

yep thats it

First be sure the cinch bolt is loose. Then move the TC lever completely to one end using pliers. That will be 4lo or 2hi (sorry can't remember which one, I think moving it toward the rear of the jeep is 2hi. The move it and count the detent positions. Since you have 2hi, 4lo, 4high, N, the setting will be one of the middle detents. Then if you start it up and can't move, you got N

trust me i do haha

i still havent had any luck moving that damn thing...and i know its not stuck when i move the transfer lever in the cab to N the lil tab moves as well which still confuses me as to how or why the linkage would need to be adjusted, but none the less it is something i will continue to work on since i cant exactly drive it at this current time :crying:
