Hi everyone!
Just bought a 1995 2.5L Rio Grande and need some help on the exhaust. The previous owner had installed new headers and a new down pipe but that’s it. I am in SC so I don’t necessarily need to install a catalytic converter, I just want to get this thing quieter.
the real question I am asking is, what part do I need to install next? It’s a 2.25” pipe with a 4-bolt flange. I haven’t been able to find anything online that was more than a 3-bolt set up. Once I get past this speed bump, I should be able to install a basic muffler and route it out with no problem!

Amazon- all Walker parts and they support warranty. The cat has the four bolt flange.

You’ve been looking just at cheap universal crp’n’stuff not oem quality.
Amazon has Walker at half the price of parts stores and it fits.

look up the Walker parts. That’s what I use and it’s great quality.
You need the cat. It doesn’t hurt anything and you get cleaner exhaust and odor.

Yep the cat is next and has that flange. (we'll make the EPA happy and say the cat is required by federal law and doesn't care about SC). The European market resonator also has that flange. I've also seen just the flange (plate) for sale, you'd have to weld a pipe to it.

But if you're going to ignore all that and not have a cat, just cut the flange off, assuming there's enough straight pipe behind it to attach to.

Don’t do that!!!
I used a hole saw and made up a bunch of 4-bolt flanges from 5/16” stock. With a driveshaft event, swapping the transmission, or doing a clutch I can remove and replace the exhaust with no cutting and no damage. The gaskets are like $4
The weld-on 4-bolt flanges can be hard to find and the last time I saw one it was $20- I’m not spending that much on a flange I can make in a few minutes from scraps.

The take-apart capacity is a bonus imho

Every time I take mine off and put it back on, I curse the flange and it’s location. Working with just finger tips, fighting the skid plate in the way. I always think This would be a lot easier if it were just a slip joint and a band clamp. I don’t do it because of the hanger bracket.

Looking at the picture he doesn’t have that concern.

I will take a flange over a slip joint and clamp any day for disassembly and reassembly. Oh, did I mention that I live in the salt belt?

I do sometimes forget that I have an endless supply of sockets, extensions, swivels, wrenches in different lengths and offsets, etc. compared to most.

I also forget that I have a MacGyver mind when it comes to which tool to use. :ROFLMAO:

No. Just no! Listen to your inner happy place.
This is your queue to do a tummy tuck and put in a crossmember: I don’t even have to jack mine up to do fluids 😎

The secret to exhausts is exercising them. Taking them off often. :) Slip joints are never a problem. And I live where the roads are often more white from salt than the snow.

I've been swapping cat back on the Jeep twice a year since I got it. I get tired of hearing it, then put the quiet muffler on. Then after a while I miss the louder one. Back and forth.

I've also got this weird muffler thing. I've probably got 7 or 8 in the box in my basement. I like to experiment with them, combinations of them, sizes, styles, multiples together, what order they're in. I once changed the muffler on my Xterra daily for almost two weeks straight, playing with different sounds. It's an odd hobby that a garage and a lift would make a lot more fun. lol Also started making "custom" pipes to make wrong things works. (custom meaning with none of the right tools other than a welder) The Nissan currently has a tailpipe that probably cost me about $200 all said and done to get it run somewhere it shouldn't be, sit back look at it and think.. damn I'm stupid.
