So here's the thing. My first problem is my jeep is an auto. Now that we have that out of the way, I have lost a bolt that goes to the linkage rod for my steering column shifter. Any idea where I can find this bolt without purchasing an entire linkage kit? Help!!

It's just a bolt. Probably 5/16 x 18

auto is the way to go

Go to a good local hardware store. They should have boxes of bolts. S/S, grade 5,8, metric standard, hex head, allen....etc.
Take the linkage with you and you should have no problems.

Because most people, in the US don't even know how to drive a manual. Also manuals are not that hard to repair. Automatics, I think I might be able to replace the pan seal...maybe.

Here's something I pulled off the internet, so you know it's true.

"At last count just 3.9 percent of cars sold in U.S. were built with manual transmissions, but in the rest of the world, manual transmissions are still overwhelmingly the top choice. In Europe and Japan, for example more than 80 percent of cars sold have manual transmissions."

Heck, they even sell automatics for Harleys now.

The auto is aftermarket, but the Harley dealerships have no problem installing them for you.

I know I'm off topic but I got to throw this out there. Hondamatics were on the Honda CB750A as early as 1976. Harley is just about 42 years behind...

Yep, I'm an operator too. I sometimes have to haul my own stuff.
I ain't shifting unless I'm getting paid to shift.

One by one, our (semi) tractors are being replaced with automatics.

I also LOVE the automatic in my diesel F350 too.
Hauling through mountains is a breeze, uphill and down.

Manuals are gonna be a tough sell on the used market before too long.
All 4 of our YJ's are automatic.

The torqueflite based auto is doggone reliable if not abused, better than the manuals in those years. Climbing over rocks is a lot easier if you don't need to coordinate two pedals while bouncing off your seat.

I was a stick shift snob for a long time (an still enjoy shfting a road going spots car), but a torque converter is my choice for crawling.
