VASCAR was mainly used in the 1960 and 1970 because it was the ONLY way to time speed at the time.
As radar and laser technology increased the use of VASCAR has significantly decreased. Less than half of the states use it at all, and mostly just on open highways, not in city limits.
Most states won't use just a point to point speed estimate from the officer either(officer would need a "certified" stop watch and have to prove distances, etc). Too easy to beat in court, and a waste of the courts time these days. If VASCAR is used at all it is usually with a VASCAR timing device.
NOBODY in this thread has ever eluded to that idea that a radar detector/locator is a 100% effective method of avoiding a speeding ticket. It is however an extra tool in your tool belt to help you avoid one.
