This is just what I'v been searching for. I had a V1 for use in the car I traded for my JK, and now I'm suck deciding if I want to keep it for road trips, or sell it and use the money for a CB.

I don't mean to derail the subject, but are CB radios good for police detection on road trips? I don't speed much, but I like to be aware of my surroundings.
dronac I just updated the initial post with pics of the v1 and an additional note. Good luck.

Not at all... Not like they were back in the day. The truckers are all using sideband radios now. But even with that, they really aren't communicating about police anymore. Truckers just use it for casual conversation now.
I agree with you. They must be doing something right. They are always going 70 in a 55 around here, and I NEVER see one pulled over.

I didn't realize people still used radar detectors. Must be horrible driving down the road paranoid about getting a ticket. The Jeep is like driving a brick and I find myself barely going over the speed limit. When I had my STi, I drove a lot faster and if I got a ticket, so be it. The only time I tend to exceed the speed limit is on the highway. Keep it 14mph or less, under the speed limit, and you'll be fine. They're waiting for the guy going 25mph over.

I commute through 5 jurisdictions along 55-65mph freeway. Traffic tends to flow 10-15 above that ALL the time. Randomly each jurisdiction will do some form of speed enforcement and just pick cars out of the pack.

I prefer to know FIRST when they are randomly picking cars out of the pack so that it is not me. So I run a V1. Worth every penny.

Took the suction cups out of the mount and screwed it to the header.

I just used the stock mount for my X50 Blue, under and to the right of the rear view mirror:

I like how Xtreme's V1 is mounted though....I may do that as well.

My Valentine works fine. I just reversed the visor clip and clip it from the front. I had some sticky backed rubber in the clip to help grab the visor. I like it cause there are no tell tale suction marks on the windshield when I remove it.

No. It has a perfectly clear sightline front to back and sits perfectly level.

It hides VERY VERY well. It is actually in EVERY picture I have ever taken of the Jeep but blends so well you never notice it.

Can you see it in the below picture? I had to "enhance" the photo, crop, etc to make it show up better to post here.

When I'm assigned traffic, I run my radar, or laser unit in the stand-by mode. I visually estimate the speed of my target, then activate my radar or laser to verify my estimate. By the time your detector alerts, I've already got you. There are a lot of law enforcement officers that run in the on position all the time, we know that those with detectors slow down, and other around the slow also. If you are stopped and have a detector you are more apt to get a citation. You can always be paced, you never know; could be a Dodge pickup or a Cadi with a certified speedometer. Just thought I would give you the other perspective. Just be careful guy's I've been to to many crashes caused by speed.

More often than not the officers around here just leave the radar on. CSP is the one exception that ALWAYS runs with it off.

I have been on both sides of the radar/laser gun. I prefer the added situational awareness a GOOD detector brings with it.

Like I mentioned above. I use it to avoid being the radom pick of the day when cruising with the flow of highway commuter traffic.
